While I attended an expense paid trip by Disney to the Monsters University Premiere and other events, all opinions are 100% my own.
As many of you know, I was fortunate enough to catch a screening of Disney’s PLANES while out in California visiting Disney Toon Studios back in June. I couldn’t wait for August 9t to arrive so I could take my son for his first viewing of PLANES. That day is finally here! Yes, we headed to the theater this morning and caught the first showing of this awesome family film. Now hopefully you’ve been reading all the Disney Planes Event coverage on my blog! However the highlight of the day was definitely seeing the movie itself.
From above the world of CARS, PLANES is a fun animated comedy pack with action and adventure! The film is centered around Dusty, voiced by Dane Cook. Dusty is a crop-duster plane over at Propwash Junction. He has dreams of becoming a high-flying racer, a life much different than just dusting crops. Dusty is fortunate though in that he has the support of his friend Chug (voiced by Brad Garrett) and eventually that of Dottie (voiced by Teri Hatcher), who both work at the Junction with him.
There is one set back though in Dusty’s plan to become a racer… Dusty is terrified of heights! Luckily this is where Skipper (voiced by Stacy Keach), a veteran naval aviator, decides to help Dusty in achieving his dream. With hard work and determination, Dusty finds himself competing in an amazing race around the world with the top competitors of other nations!
One of my favorite aspect of the films is the beautiful scenery. Even though the film is animated, the colors, and landscapes are amazingly beautifully drawn. I especially loved the peaceful and serene feel of the scenes that took place in India and Nepal. Absolutely gorgeous. (Psst! Be sure to watch the video I included at the end for even more breathtaking scenes.)
My son on the other hand loved the action! His face lit up anything he saw the planes and racers soaring and zipping through the sky. He was in complete awe during the opening sequence, and the aircraft carrier scenes. He’s really into anything that is transportation related. So the planes, cars, trucks, and boats were right up his alley! He was just in heaven with amazement watching the film.
One of my favorite characters in the film was definitely El Chupacabra (voiced by Carlos Alazraqui). He had me laughing in stitches! He provides much comic relief and light-heart fun to the film. You can tell he truly cares about not only racing, but his competitors as well. He values friendship and even though he races against the other planes, he still looks out for them.
PLANES is probably one of my most favorite Disney films in the past few years. I absolutely love the storyline of chasing your dream and working hard for what you want to accomplish! The tale really provides a wonderful life lesson for kids and adults alike.
The film has a little something for everyone. It is really great to see an animated film with such unique characters who really display depth and personality on the big screen. The animators did an amazing job in showing the emotion these characters go through, even though you might just see them as “machines.” The character just come across so real! PLANES is full of action, adventure, heart, encouragement, and yes, there is even a romantic love story!
Definitely take your kids (and spouse!) if they are into aviation or were fans of CARS. Learning the research and authenticity behind the film, watching it again on the big screen really gave me an appreciation for all the thought that went behind creating each character.
Don’t forget to connect with Planes on Facebook and Twitter!! Be sure to track all the Planes fun with the hashtags #DisneyPlanes and #DisneyPlanesEvent. Be sure to check out a few clips from the movie or can I interest you in a PLANES Healthy Fruit Snack?
This film is rated G and runs for 92 minutes. So really, what are you waiting for? Grab the whole family and head out to see PLANES this weekend! Can’t make it this weekend? Check out the PLANES Takes Flight video below!
