With the arrival of Spring, the weather is getting warmer, and I know a number of men who are getting ready to shave away those winter beards, including the special man in my life. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the bearded look. But let’s face it… Summer is coming and there are just times when the scruff is just too much in the heat! That is exactly why I want to chat about shaving today.
Now I love a comfortable close shave as much as the next person. I completely understand the desire for a comfortable shave by all means. Want to hear a secret? There are times where in fact, I prefer to use a men’s razor! It’s very often that a men’s razor has more blades, offer better grip on the handle which helps out when you are maneuvering the curves of ankles and knees. Recently while shopping at Giant Eagle, I saw that select Schick® Razors are “new and improved.” I couldn’t help but throw it in my shopping cart, knowing that someone in my household would use it!
I learned that Schick recently revamped their Schick Hydro® product line, which includes the Hydro 5, Hydro 5 Sensitive, Hydro cartridge refills, and Edge Shave Gel. These products are designed like no other razors to protect from irritation.
The Hydro 5 razor now includes 80% more lubricant surface area for gel extrusion with new recessed micro-slits for an improved slide across your skin. Even better, Schick Hydro® has improved safety by reducing blade spans to minimize skin bulge between blades. Sounds like the perfect formula for a comfortable shave!
Speaking of the most comfortable shave… check out below for some tips and tricks on how to achieve this!
Consider the environment – Want a comfortable shave? Head to a warm environment. Shaving in warmer temperatures cause the hairs to stick out slightly, as well as soften the follicles. This way you can achieve a closer shave. Now I shave in my bathroom, and often in the shower where it is nice and steamy. Most men I know usually prefer to use a mirror while shaving. If you must shave in front of a mirror, run the shower just to warm the bathroom up.
Prepare your skin – Did you know that shaving actually removes almost as much skins as hair? If you don’t prepare your skin for a shave, then very often, shaving will leave your skin dry and irritated. I highly recommend that men use a good face wash with warm water. Plus this also helps soften the hairs even more prior to shaving.
Quality lather – A nice quality shaving gel or cream is crucial for protection while shaving. I know the man in my life needs ultimate protection, he uses Edge® Shave Gel. He swears that this shave gel really helps protect his skin against razor burn. Now one aspect of the Hydro 5 that is quite awesome is that it has a Hydrating Gel Reservoir, which means there is 40% less friction than a lube strip. This means that it still hydrates through each shave! This is a great bonus to keep your face hydrated and soft while shaving.
Follow the grain – While shaving, you should always go with the grain on the first pass. If a second pass is warranted, go across the grain. Just make sure you never go against the grain. That is how you develop ingrown hairs.
Handle with grip – Choose a razor that has great grip on the handle. This way you are able to control how the blades move across the curve of your face. It’s always a great way to prevent slips which cause nicks and cuts!
The power of cool water – After you shave, splash some cool water on your face! Then apply moisturizing lotion to keep skin soft. Don’t forget though, in the Schick Hydro® 5 Razor, there is the Hydro gel that does moisturize your skin for up to 2 hours after your shave. What a great bonus!
