Fellowes AP300-PH Air Purifer with HEPA Filter & PlasmaTrue Technology ~ #Review

Living in Maryland has its blessing and its curse. The curse? Totally not friendly to those of us who suffer from allergies and asthma. Autumn is my favorite season, but I dread the pollen that appears everywhere during this time of year. Sure, I take allergy medicine to help relieve the symptoms. However, my one year old does not have that same luxury. At 16 months, he still has 2 months to go before they can officially test for him seasonal allergy issues and then work from there to find the right treatment.

This past Spring we had an especially rough pollen season. It’s heartbreaking when your little one wants to just go outside and play, but does not understand why you are keeping him inside. He does not put the connection together that outside in heavy pollen will equal all that sneezing, itchy eyes, and coughing that he dislikes so much.

The problem is, I can’t exactly 100% keep out all outside air from entering and natural air pollutants out of my home. Plus, even though my dog is staying with relatives right now, I still feel like I’m constantly vacuuming and shampooing her dog hair out of our carpet. Since we see her regularly, I know we still bring her dog hair into our home via her shedding on our clothes. It’s hard to separate a boy and his dog! This is exactly why having an air purifying system in our home is very important!

Due to my allergies and asthma, I grew up in a home with an air purifying system. So naturally when I bought my own home, I installed special filters into my central air system to help alleviate my symptoms during the rough season. However, since most of my vents are up high, in my home of cathedral ceilings, air coming in from my front door and balcony door don’t always get “cleaned.” This is exactly why I was thrilled for Fellowes and Mom Central to send me the Fellowes Air Purifier AP-300PH!

I was very excited when the Air Purifier arrived at my doorstep! I was one happy momma to have a purifier closer to my son’s height. This would ensure that it was purifying the air that he directly breathed in our home. Reading up on the Fellowes purifiers, I love that they use an innovative system to safely remove airborne pollutants as small as 0.3 microns! This purifier is able to remove viruses, allergens, germs, pollen, odors, dander, etc. from the air in my home.

The AP-300PH Air Purifier uses a 4-stage system to safely remove airborne pollutants from your home. Let’s take a look at the four stages used to stop these nasty little home invaders.

Stage 1

The purifier’s carbon filter removes odors and removes larger airborne particles.

Stage 2

This is the sanitizing stage where the carbon filter will then effectively reduce the development of bacteria, fungi, and dust mites on the carbon filter itself. Without this stage, the nasty microbes can settle on the filter and be re-circulated into the air.

Stage 3

In the third stage, the True HEPA filter safely removes 99.97% of particles such as mold spores, pollen, dust mites, most airborne microbes, allergens, pet dander,viruses, germs, bacteria, and cigarette smoke, just to name a few!

Stage 4

In the final stage, the purifier uses PlasmaTrue Technology to instantly neutralize harmful germs, viruses, and bacteria in the air.

This particular purifier covers an area of 300 square feet. I figured I’d want to place the air purifier somewhere in my home not too far from the balcony door or front door. This way it could quickly “grab” the pollutant air. The other place I considered was my son’s room. In the end, I decided to place the air purifier somewhat under my stairs, so it sits within 300 feet of the front door, balcony door, and entrance to my son’s room.

With these horrible season allergies, I could tell quite a difference with the AP300-PH running. If I am outside for a long time, I start to get that itch in my throat. With the purifier cleaning the air in my home, I was able to recover quicker than normal.

So let’s talk about one of my favorite features on the AP300-PH. This air purifier is super easy to use. Simply plug in, hit the power button, and you are good to go! The purifier has an air purity sensor that monitors the air quality in your home. As it monitors, it automatically adjusts the speed of the fan to keep the air cleaner!

It does take a moment to register the air, but you’ll see on the left side in the image below that there is an air quality monitor. This will stay green when the air quality is good. It maybe turn to yellow or red as the air quality decreases. You will see in correspondence with that, the fan speed will increase as the air quality drops. I love that you can visually monitor your home’s air through the PlasmaTrue technology displayed there right on the front of the purifier.

There are also monitors for the carbon and HEPA filters. Green indicates the filters are still good, while red pretty much means “change filter now!” I love that this absolutely takes the guessing game out of when to change the filter. I had to do this with my last air purifying system and I never knew if I was changing the filter too soon or too late.

So does it really work? Let me tell you… I emptied my son’s diaper pale one afternoon. While I walked past the purifier with the bag of well, dirty diapers, I saw my air quality go to yellow and it wasn’t long before it hit red. Yes, definitely works!

I’m really happy the AP300-PH has joined our household. With the fall pollen season fast approaching, I know this air purifier is going to be a tremendous help in the battle against allergies. Plus it somewhat serves as an activity center for my son! Okay, that was a joke, but really he loves just feeling the newly purified air shooting out of the top. Can I blame him? Isn’t it nice to know you are breathing absolutely clean air?
