Whenever we visited Hersey, PA, our “go-to” Official Hershey Resort was always Hershey Lodge. You can probably imagine my disappointment when we decided to take a last minute trip up to Hershey, and found that the Lodge was totally booked for the date we were going! I quickly went to see if there were any rooms available at another Official Hershey property, The Hotel Hershey. Once again, all booked up! I was not surprised though, as these hotels offer absolutely wonderful accommodations. Luckily, I did find a room available in the Woodside Cottages at The Hotel Hershey. I had never stayed in the Cottages before, and figured now was a good time to experience one of these premium rooms for myself!
So let me start off by saying that this is not a sponsored post. Being completely transparent, I was headed to Hershey to attend a media event at Hersheypark Amusement Park. At the last minute, I decided to stay the night so I could travel back during the daytime, rather than drive back late at night after the event. While I was in Hershey as part of the #SweetestMoms program, I paid for my own Woodside Cottages room, out of my own pocket. This is my honest opinion on these accommodations.
So what are the Woodside Cottages at The Hotel Hershey? Now you may be familiar with the historic Hotel Hershey. It sits up on the hill across from Hersheypark, just minutes away.
I’ve always found The Hotel Hershey to offer top notch luxury accommodations, no matter what room you are staying in. The Hotel itself is one of a kind stunning.
Of course staying in one of the Woodside Cottages rooms allows you full access to the luxurious amenities offered at The Hotel Hershey.
Nestled in a little “neighborhood” behind The Hotel Hershey, Woodside Cottages are a collection of… well… cottages actually. Each cottage features 4 to 6 guest rooms. Each room features an exterior porch with private entrance. You can however rent a whole cottage, which allows you access to the cottage’s multi-functional Great Room, with cathedral ceilings, a fireplace, a microwave and wet bar with a refrigerator.
Though you can technically walk to the Cottages from the Hotel, the Cottages do have their own parking spaces, right in front of each cottage. One for each room. Plus if you are taking the shuttle, there is a stop there at the Cottages. There is no need to drive or walk back to the Hotel to catch the shuttle.
And don’t worry… since you are still technically staying at The Hotel Hershey, you’ll still receive your chocolate bar at check in!
As we walked up to our room, I couldn’t help but notice the cute porches in front of each room. I liked the little touch of being “greeted” by the porch light. This was great for when we returned to our room later that night. The porch made the room feel a little more “home-like.”
With two rocking chairs, the porch is great for relaxing on while sipping your morning coffee! It was rather cold during our stay, but if I come back in the Spring or Summer, I definitely would take full advantage of relaxing on the porch!
Rooms in Woodside Cottages are larger than other accommodations at The Hotel Hershey, measuring around 525 square feet. When I opened the door, I could definitely tell the room was more spacious than other typical hotel rooms. Our room featured upscale furnishings with two Queen beds, though King room options are available.
I must point out that the room was very clean and tidy. The warmth of the decor is definitely a nice touch.
The decor made you feel like you were really in a cottage or cabin next to the woods… But like an elegant or luxury “cabin”!
I found the beds are quite comfortable and the linens are of high-quality. Now see that open door frame next to the bed?
That leads you around the corner to a closet, complete with a safe, soft bath robes, and other storage options. This is also where you can access the Great Room if you rent out the whole cottage.
Our room also featured a couple of sitting chairs, as well as a desk.
My son especially enjoyed the complimentary stationery and post cards. He immediately started writing on them to send to relatives!
At the end of each bed, you will also find a small bench. The rooms also feature a dresser with a mini-fridge, coffee maker, and a large flat screen TV (with DVD player) above. Even with all this furniture in the room, there is plenty of space to walk around.
Did I mention that the coffee maker is a Keurig machine? You’ll find both coffee and hot chocolate pods available! Don’t want hot coffee and prefer it iced? There are no ice machines nearby, but with just a push of a button on your room’s telephone, someone will come right over with a bucket of ice for you. (This actually goes for many of the guest services.)
So now onto the bathrooms… they are huge! Definitely one of my favorite luxury features of the rooms in Woodside Cottages.
The bathrooms feature marble double-sinks, a separate privacy room for the toilet, a rain forest showerhead, and deep soaking tub.
See that remote on the sink counter next to my son? That’s for the second flat screen TV in the bathroom! Yes you can watch TV as you relax and soak in the tub.
And of course the bathroom features toiletries, such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, moisturizer, soaps, and body scrub all in my favorite The Spa at The Hotel Hershey scent… Chocolate Mandarin!
After we placed our luggage in the room, we headed to our event at Hersheypark. Upon return, it was nice to see that we had “turn down” service with a sweet treat.
Usually we just receive Hershey Kisses… but in the rooms in Woodside Cottages, we found York Peppermint Patties and Hershey’s Chocolate Bars!
We had a long and cold night. Crawling into the warm and comfy beds in our room was such a treat! I can’t emphasize enough how great the linens felt!
So would I book one of these rooms again? Absolutely!! Would I reserve it only for special occasions or maybe an “adults-only” getaway? Yes. I loved the room, but it did cost me a pretty penny so to speak. These rooms are more expensive than your standard room at The Hotel Hershey or Hershey Lodge. You are paying for a luxury room, and the rates reflect that. To me, when I want the luxury experience, the price is worth it. I will say though that while features like the outdoor pool, game/sports areas, and the Harvest restaurant are not that far of a walk, you do have quite a walk to get back to the main Hotel, which contains the indoor pool and Spa. With an energetic young child, who always wants “to explore” and then go back to the room for 10 minutes before “exploring” again, it can get tedious with all the back and forth.
However, if I wanted a romantic getaway, I would definitely book one of these rooms, especially with the privacy factor. The Woodside Cottages are more secluded, and back up to the woods.
There are no loud noises from lots of guests. You know how in a typical hotel you could usually hear guests in the hallway, always walking past your door? Not here!
It truly is a very nice and quiet setting if you are looking for that type of privacy.
Don’t forget that during the holiday season, both The Hotel Hershey and Hershey Lodge are offering the Hersheypark Happy! Christmas Package to guests. This package includes: Deluxe accommodations for two nights, milk and cookies for four on night of arrival, two-day admission to Christmas Candylane holiday attraction per person, admission for one vehicle to Hershey Sweet Lights attraction, admission to Hershey Gardens (including the year-round Butterfly Atrium), and admission to The Hershey Story’s Museum Experience.
