Couple weeks back while I was out in Los Angeles, I had the privilege to attend a screening of Marvel’s latest film GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY! Now I understand that Guardians is exploring a whole new wing of the Marvel Universe. However, if you’ve been a fan of Marvel’s Avengers series, this film is still one you definitely want to see! Best part? The movie is out TODAY! As a matter of fact, I’ll be seeing the film again this weekend with my friends. If you have a moment, be sure to check out my interviews with the stars of the film: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, and director James Gunn.
GUARDIAN’s is an action-packed, epic space adventure! The film follows brash adventurer Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) as he finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by the villainous Ronan (Lee Pace), who plans to destroy the universe along with Thanos (Josh Brolin). To avoid Ronan, Peter finds himself in alliance with quite a group of characters, that include the weapon-crazy raccoon Rocket (Bradley Cooper), a tree-like humanoid who serves as Rocket’s bodyguard named Groot (Vin Diesel), the deadly and enigmatic assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and the revenge-thirsty Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista). Once Peter learns the true power of the orb and what it can destroy, it’s up to him and his new-found friends to save the galaxy!
Now let me just start off with that The Avengers has been my favorite Marvel movie up until I saw GUARDIANS. Yes, I’m going to go ahead and declare that GUARDIANS is my favorite Marvel movie to date! And here’s why…
Top 5 Reasons Why GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is My New Favorite Marvel Movie
1) You’re going to laugh! Straight up this movie is hilarious! Now I know most Marvel movies are action flicks, and from time to time they’ll add a joke here and there to give the audience a chuckle (like the THOR movies). However with GUARDIANS, there are lots of laughs, and I love it! Don’t get me wrong… this is still quite an action flick! Seriously though, this movie was the perfect mix of keeping me on the edge of my seat with the action, and giving me laugh out loud laughs!
2) Action, action, action! This movie is packed with action. Escapes from prison, fight battles, fighter jet chase scenes… this movie has it all. So if you definitely come to watch these super hero movies for the action, you’ll enjoy this one!
3) Friendship. I know this is a Marvel super hero action movie, but honestly, one of the main themes that I just loved about the film was friendship. Here you have these five misfits so to speak, and despite their differences and the fact that they initial all clash, they do come together for the greater good. I absolutely loved Groot and Rocket’s friendship. Here’s this giant tree so to speak, and then this little experimental raccoon… yet they are the best of friends and ALWAYS have each others back throughout the film.
4) Overcoming obstacles in life. This is another theme that I felt was ever present in the film. You have characters dealing with the death of their loved ones, or characters who have been taken from their homes and forced into a life they never wanted, or characters that have been bullied and mistreated their whole being.
5). Eye candy. Okay, don’t fault me here. I know it is a super shallow reason to put this in my Top 5. Chris Pratt’s hard work to get in shape for this film definitely paid off. For all you ladies who aren’t big on action flicks, at least go see the film for Mr. Pratt’s and Dave Bautista’s muscles. You won’t be disappointed!
Overall I really enjoyed the film. As cliche as it might sound, I really did literally laugh, cry, and sit on the edge of my seat. I love Marvel movies. I’ve always been a big fan. This movie though… it quickly pulled itself to the front of the pack! Don’t get me wrong… I absolutely still love my Avengers, but right now, and probably for awhile, I’m totally a GUARDIANS girl!
