Last week I have the privilege to review On Toby’s Terms. This week I’m featuring Toby and His Hospital Friends, a children’s book based on everyone’s favorite Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Toby! If you recall, Toby is an overly energetic canine, whose family soon realizes his true calling as a pet therapy dog. This kid-friendly tale feature Toby as he fulfills that calling to help and assist others.
Toby is a big, brown, happy dog. Every week, his owner, Miss Charmaine takes him to visit and comfort children who are in the hospital. Follow Toby for a day and see how he makes friends with the children and helps to make them happy.
This adorable story features Toby as he works as a pet therapy dog on a typical Wednesday. Your children will follow Toby has he gets ready and heads out to his local hospital. There he meets and makes friends of all ages and shoes them love and devotion, while putting a smile on their faces. I found the book easy to connect to as one of my dogs was once a therapy dog. Sharing the story with my son felt like I was telling him the story of our own dog and what he used to do for others.
I just love the positive message of this book about caring for others and treating everyone with nothing but kindness. This story teachers children the importance of caring for others, whether human or animal. With so much bullying going on in the world today, it is nice to read a tale about how rewarding it can be to comfort and care for others.
Furthermore, this is quite a simple read. Your little ones will not become overwhelmed with hard to read words they may find intimidating. The words and short and simple, but this is still a book that even older children will very much enjoy. The story of Toby and his visit to the hospital is quite easy to read and understand.
The book features beautiful illustrations by Rose Anne Prevec. I just love the colorful images and my son particularly enjoyed pointing to Toby on each page. It was so fun to see who Toby was going to visit and make friends with next. Children of any age will thoroughly enjoy this book!
