Anyone else feeling that summer heat? Summer is here and Hersheypark Amusement Park is open for business!! The Summer Season is in full swing at Hershey The Sweetest Place on Earth! and we couldn’t be more excited. Why? Well because not only is Hersheypark packed with sweet fun, but it also offers The Boardwalk at Hersheypark, which is one of our favorite ways to beat the summer heat! The 11-acre water park has more than 16 attractions, and is included in your one-price Hersheypark admission!
The Boardwalk at Hersheypark
The Boardwalk at Hersheypark has two brand new attractions this year… Breakers Edge Water Coaster and Whitecap Racer! With that in mind, I knew we definitely had to hit The Boardwalk this season.
Once we arrived, we quickly secured a locker for our possessions. I love how easy it is to use The Boardwalk’s locker system! Simply purchase locker usage at the kiosk. Then place the machine printed wristbands on for easy opening of your locker. Just scan your wristband and it opens!
We headed to the Breakers Edge Water Coaster first. However just an FYI, both new attractions are located right next to one another for convenience!
They are both located between Shoreline Sprayground attraction and Intercoastal Waterway lazy river in The Boardwalk. Breakers Edge is actually the world’s first HydroMAGNETIC water coaster! I was so pumped to right this!
Guests ride the coaster on a four-person raft for a bobsled-like experience, while they ride over splash-filled hills and flying saucer turns.
The attendant informed my son he was to sit in the front, while I sat behind him. Since the Boardwalk had just opened, we were the only two in our raft.
He was a little nervous at first… but as you can see from the smile, he was just fine! Breakers Edge is a great thrill ride for the whole family.
The second new attraction is Whitecap Racer. This is actually the world’s longest mat racing slide! This attraction will take guests 70 feet high as they race to the bottom through side by side tunnels. Riders will speed through two tight 360 degree loops. My son was a little nervous to ride this one by himself, so we skipped it that day. But it certainly looks fun, doesn’t it?
We headed over to the Coastal Pipeline for water slides more his style. In Coastal Pipeline, riders have their choice of various slides to travel though back-to-back serpentine curves, in open and enclosed sections with water curtains, before landing into the splash pool (which is only 3.5 feet deep). My son’s favorite is Pipeline, but there are slides of all different levels and thrills you can choose from.
If you are looking for a non-water slide way to beat the heat, check out the Shoreline Sprayground!
Open to all-ages, you can find misters, bubblers, dancing fountains, spraying jets, and water curtains in this fun “playground.”
Though my son’s favorite part of the Sprayground is to get drenched by the tipping bucket! Since the area is somewhat shaded, it is definitely a great way to cool off from the hot sun.
Another favorite section of ours at The Boardwalk is East Coast Waterworks!
This area features 7 slides, 2 crawl tunnels, nearly 600 interactive water toys, and more than 54,000 gallons of wet.
There are pull ropes, tip cones, water sprayers and more to play with! It’s so much fun to cross all the bridges as you explore the different levels.
After all the exciting fun, we headed over to the Intercoastal Waterway for a little bit a relaxation. Catch a tube and enjoy a slow, winding lazy river, passing under bridges and water falls. It was the kind of relaxation we needed after all the fun thrills of Breakers Edge and Coastal Pipeline.
Guests can also relax in over at The Shore, which is a 378,000 gallon wave pool. The wave pool’s depth goes from zero, at the entry ramp, to six feet, in the deepest section. The Shore is a great place just to play in the rolling surf.
Of course this is only a small glimpse what The Boardwalk has to offer! Check out more information on rides and attractions , like the Wave Rider, over at the Hersheypark website.
At the time of our last visit, the Sunkissed Beach BBQ and Smiling Taco-ria food trucks were not yet open. I can’t wait to try their delicious mobile cuisine on my next visit!
