Today I’m writing a post that I truly hope you take a moment to read and really let sink in. Reality is that domestic violence affects one in four women in her lifetime – that’s more women than breast cancer, ovarian cancer and lung cancer combined! It is very often that people think only of physical abuse when they consider domestic violence. This is not the case though. Domestic abuse comes in all forms including financial abuse, which happens in 98% of all cases of domestic violence and is one of the most powerful ways to keep a victim trapped. This is why it is so important today that I chat with you about the !
Television and film actress and domestic violence activist, Kerry Washington, serves as an ambassador to help bring this program to the nation’s attention. She has designed an adorable limited-edition purple purse. I love that this purse will be distributed to help raise awareness. Additionally, The Allstate Foundation is producing 80,000 purple purse charms and tassels, which will be sent to Purple Purse challenge participants and agents!
How cute is it?? What a great way to attach one to your favorite purse as a sign of your support. It is very inspiring in that each tassel has a removable card featuring one of five survivor stories.
So why am I taking the Purple Purse Challenge? Easy. Awareness! Yes it is true that two thirds of Americans understand that domestic violence is a serious issue… but that still leaves a third of the population that doesn’t talk about it! I love that the Allstate Foundation Purple Purse is making it fashionable to talk about domestic violence and financial abuse.
The program will benefit more than 140 national, state and local domestic violence organizations. The funds raised will support life-changing financial empowerment services to help domestic violence survivors build safer lives for not only themselves, but also for their families.
So now I’m challenging you! The Allstate Foundation is investing more than $650,000 in the Purple Purse Challenge. Take a look at the math… the more donations each nonprofit receives, the more they will be able to compete for Allstate Foundation incentive funding.
So this is where you come in. Head on over to Purple Purse website now through October 3rd to join the Challenge and help a nonprofit close to you!
Don’t forget to connect with the Purple Purse Challenge on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube!

Clearly, this is awesome. Domestic violence isn’t a new problem, but lately it seems every day I am hearing a new AWFUL story… *cough cough* NFL. I’m happy to hear Allstate is making a difference (they are my car/house insurance company)!

So do we get the purple tassel in the mail? I love to show my support. I lost a co-worker several years ago to DV and it has impacted my life ever since.
Ashley says
Yes, I received mine in the mail just the other day! I’ll have to post a photo soon.
