To celebrate those whoso bravely fought for our country and freedoms, I’ve compiled a list of area deals and discounts for Veterans Day! While I’ve based this list off the local Annapolis, Maryland area, a few of these are available nationwide. Deals and discounts only valid for November 11, 2020. This post may be updated throughout the day.
Remembering Our Veterans: National Veterans Day Run #NVDR2013 ~ My 5K Results for #VeteransDay
It was a busy busy busy weekend for running! I had three races I participated in to honor Veterans Day. One of them was the National Veterans Day Run. Races were held all over the USA in honor of our Veterans and their commitment to our great nation. The events were held to benefit the Folds of Honor organization. If you aren’t familiar, this organization provides educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women who were killed or disabled while serving our country.
The race included options to run an 11K, 5K, or 1 mile. For the race I opted to do the 5K. However later that day I did accomplish the 1 mile with my son in tow. I decided to honor the Veterans by making this race a little more challenging. I actually wore my backpack for the run with a little weight in it. As you can see in the photo below, that’s where I proudly displayed my racing bib. The weight was nothing too heavy! However, you can tell by looking at my time, it definitely slowed me down. You know what though? I thought of all the veterans, activity military, and govies who wear much more gear than this when fighting for our country. My little backpack seemed like nothing compared to that. I did hurt my knee pretty bad this weekend though from all the strain. I’ve been icing it each night. Hopefully in time it heals! I have 3 more races this month.
First off, big thanks to Survival Impact Gear for the backpack! If you aren’t familiar with this store, check out my review! They are owned and operated by a USMC Veteran! What better way to honor our veterans than by supporting veteran owned businesses.
After the run was finished, I was super excited to earn my medal. Not only did a earn a medal though… I was also provided with a Commemorative Pin of the event. When I registered for this race, I opted to upgrade for one of the cotton t-shirts (which I was able to wear for the race.) There was also an option to upgrade to a technical shirt if that is your preference. I definitely plan to participate in this race next year! Here’s a close up of my medal:
As I stated before, in less than 2 weeks I’ll be running in the Annapolis Running Classic. I get so nervous any time I even think about it! I’m running in the 10K, not the Half Marathon. Tips are appreciated to help me with the process of double my running mileage. Wish me luck!
After the Running Classic, I have a race to benefit the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, and another race to benefit the USO. For December I actually don’t have any races planned. There are a few I have my eye on, but the weather here just gets way too cold! We’ll see though…
All opinions are 100% my own.
