I’m so excited that Disney’s QUEEN OF KATWE is now open in theaters everywhere! If you haven’t had a chance yet, be sure to go and read my review of this amazing uplifting tale of chess champion Phiona Mutesi, and her teacher Robert Katende. Need even more proof on the brillance of this film? QUEEN OF KATWE is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a current score of 92%! The audiences who saw during last week’s limited release gave the film an A+ on Cinemascore!

The first word that popped into my mind after I screened Disney’s film version of Tim Crothers’ QUEEN OF KATWE was… uplifting. There just something about a triumphant “underdog” story that is good for the soul. And who does it better than ESPN when telling a truly uplifting sports themed story? No one. Except for maybe Disney. Which is why it’s absolutely perfect that the two teamed up to present the inspirational true story of Ugandan chess champion, Phiona Mutesi, and her teacher, Robert Katende, on the big screen.

While I was in Los Angeles earlier this month, we had the opportunity to screen Disney’s upcoming film, QUEEN OF KATWE. What a pleasant surprise! I admit, I heard good things about the film from other bloggers who had already screened it. However I wasn’t sure if this was a film I would rush to the theater for… I was wrong! I’m so glad I saw this film, and I can’t encourage you enough to see it for yourselves! So inspiring, especially for those with younger girls. Disney has a lot of great film’s coming out this year! Now they may be know for their animation, but they’ve release a number of amazing dramas and live action films. Today I’m sharing with you the trailer for QUEEN OF KATWE scheduled to hit theaters later this fall. The films tells the story of a young girl in rural Uganda whose life changes once she is introduced to the world of chess. With the help of her family and village, she pursues her dream of becoming an international chess champion!
