It’s Maryland Fleet Week!! There are so many great activities going on with this festival, including Air Show Baltimore. Fleet Week organizers lined up a variety of performers, food vendors and environmental, military, maritime and cultural heritage-related exhibitors for the Fleet Week Festival. Also open during Fleet Week are the Chesapeake Galley and Beer Garden at the Inner Harbor and the Open House and Free Festival at Martin State Airport. In addition, Baltimore has the honor of hosting the USS Zumwalt, the U.S. Navy’s newest vessel, on October 15th for the ship’s commissioning ceremony!
The Bowie Baysox & Travis Manion Foundation Team Up for Navy Night August 5!
As a long time Maryland resident, I grew up going to Bowie Baysox baseball games. I recently learned that the Baysox are teaming up with the Travis Manion Foundation to host a special Navy Night at Prince George’s Stadium on Friday, August 5! The team is set to square off that night against the Richmond Flying Squirrels at 7:05 PM (hopefully with your support and attendance!), with a fireworks show after the game.

In Theaters Now…THE FINEST HOURS + New Featurette & Clips ~ #TheFinestHours
I received the following information as a blogger via Walt Disney Publications. All opinions and views expressed are 100% my own.
Disney’s THE FINEST HOURS hits theaters (Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D) TODAY! This film tells the tale of the SS Pendleton rescue mission that occurred in New England back in the 1950s. It is actually considered the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history! To celebrate the film’s release, I’m excited to share with you a couple of clips from the film! Since this heroic action-thriller pays tribute to the brave men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard, I’m also sharing with you a featurette giving you some insight into these individuals.
On February 18, 1952, a massive nor’easter struck New England, pummeling towns along the Eastern seaboard and wreaking havoc on the ships caught in its deadly path, including the SS Pendleton, a T-2 oil tanker bound for Boston, where 30 sailors are not trapped inside while it sinks! As word of the disaster reaches the nearby U.S. Coast Guard, officers plan out a daring operation to rescue the stranded men. Despite overwhelming odds, four men set out in a wooden lifeboat facing frigid temperatures, 60-foot high waves and hurricane-force winds.THE FINEST HOURS is directed by Craig Gillespie and stars some amazing talent, including Chris Pine; Academy Award® and Golden Globe® nominee Casey Affleck, Ben Foster, Holliday Grainger, John Ortiz and Eric Bana.

This morning I woke up to an email from GORUCK containing this infograph. I couldn’t help but share it with you, and all the amazing events GORUCK has going on right now!
There are numerous rucks across the nation honoring the events of 9/11, as well as other special events you’ll want to check out. I actually was suppose to be doing the Mogadishu Mile with friends of mine next month. However, I will be on a press trip for Disney. I look forward to the day I can participate, and I wish the best of luck to my friends participating in GORUCK events tomorrow and in the future.
In the mean time, please take a moment to read and really take in the facts below. Please don’t forget to take a moment of silence tomorrow, and please please please, never forget the sacrifices made for our country.
