My Favorite (Not So Family-Friendly) Hiking Trails in #Maryland!Not too long ago I posted some of my favorite Family-Friendly Hiking Trails in Maryland. If you are anything like me, sometimes you just want to get out on the trail, but want to tackle a more difficult trail. Maybe one that isn’t necessarily considered kid-friendly? Maryland is full of scenic trails that are just too beautiful to resist. So call a sitter, grab your back pack, and check out some of my favorite not-so-family-friendly hiking trails in Maryland!

Not-So-Family-Friendly Hiking Trails in Maryland

Avalon Super Loop in Patapsco State Park
Now this trail only just over 12 miles, but it is still great if you want to spend your entire day at the park! There is lots to see whether you are a nature or history buff. I really enjoy the waterfall areas, but there are ruins and artifacts along the trail too.

Catoctin Mountain Park Circuit in Thurmont
This circuit is almost 9.5 miles, but still offers some of the most beautiful views in Catoctin Mountain National Park. My favorite is Cunningham Falls (which is a great place to start). You don’t want to miss Chimney Rock, Wolf Rock, or the Blue Ridge Summit Overlook. Just a warning, this trail is on the rocky side! If hiking over boulders and rocks isn’t your thing, you may want to skip it.

Family Friendly Hiking Trails in #Maryland!

Family Friendly Hiking in #Maryland!With the weather warm, my family has been spending much more time outside! One of our favorite activities is hiking. We are lucky enough to live in the beautiful and scenic State of Maryland! Check out some of our favorite spots for family-friendly hiking in the area.

Family-Friendly Hiking in Maryland

Gunpowder Falls State Park Wildlands Loop in Gunpowder Estates
Gunpowder Falls features an easy trail that is 4.5 miles long. Towards the end there is even a swimming hole!

Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis
Quiet Waters is a park with many walking trails. Definitely check out this location if you are looking for super easy trails more on the walking than hiking side. There are water views of Harness Creek and the South River along with playgrounds and fields for your kids to enjoy.

Patuxent Research Refuge in Laurel
This refuge feature various trails of different lengths. It doesn’t matter if you are looking to hike less than a half mile or up to 2 miles, you’ll find a trail for your family. Definitely check out the National Wildlife Visitor Center for wildlife research and exhibits to learn more before setting out on your hike.
