This is a post that saddens to me right every year. However it must be done. This nation must never forget the heroes who gave all for our country.
Four years ago today a U.S. Boeing CH-47 Chinook helicopter (call sign Extortion One Seven) was shot down over the Tangi Valley in the Wardak Province of Afghanistan. The Chinook was transporting a quick reaction force to assist a unit of Army Rangers who had been under fire for over 3 hours.
Thirty-one American heroes were aboard, and sacrificed their lives. The heroes include 15 US Navy SEALs from the Naval Special Warfare Development Group’s Gold Squadron (more commonly known as DEVGRU or SEAL Team 6), 5 US Naval Special Warfare support personnel, 2 US Navy SEALs from a west coast based SEAL team, 3 US Army Reserve personnel (from the 7th Battalion, 158th Aviation Regiment), 2 US Army personnel (from the 2nd Battalion, 135th Aviation Regiment, part of Colorado Army National Guard), 2 US Air Force Para-rescuemen (from the 24th Special Tactics Squadron), an US Air Force Combat Controller (from the 24th Special Tactics Squadron), and a US Military working dog named Bart.
I know we all have busy lives with busy schedules. But please please please take a moment to remember and honor these 31 heroes today.
