This is always a day I’m somewhat at loss for words. There is so much I want to say, but I can never get the words out right.
Fourteen years ago I still remember getting ready for class when I heard of the attacks. Living in the Washington DC area, I can’t event being to explain the fear and panic took over. My heart was absolutely broken for New York City. It still seems to fresh in my mind as we silently walked into the classroom, and then the professor decided to move us to the local “pub” on campus so we could watch the coverage on the big screen TV. While watching the news coverage, we witnessed live, on air, in shock and disbelief, as the second plane hit the second tower.
Today we remember the innocent lives lost, the first responders who fought so valiantly to save them, and all those who volunteered and jumped in to help this country recover from such horrific attacks. Though I have a request today… while you take your moment to remember what happened on September 11, 2001, please take a moment to remember the lives lost September 11, 2012. (The attacks began on September 11th. Even though Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty’s time of death is 5:15 AM September 12th, America EST is 6 hours behind Benghazi’s time zone. Therefore it was 11:15 PM on September 11th that they took their final breathe. If you can, please light a candle, or take a moment of silence to honor these fine gentlemen).I don’t think I could ever express enough my gratitude and appreciation to all those who are brave enough to protect, fight, and defend our country, overseas and Stateside. The armed forces, DoD civilians, LEOs, firefighters, EMS… all of them. These individuals put their life on the line and work to no end for us, America. To say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU never seems nearly enough…
