While I attended an expense paid trip by Disney to the Monsters University Premiere and other events, all opinions are 100% my own.
Welcome to another addition from my Monsters University Premiere Adventure in California! Once again, we are talking Disney’s PLANES! I can’t tell you how excited I am to take my son to see this film in August. While in California, I have the privilege to screen PLANES at the Disney Toon Studios. If you are a regular reader of my blog, I’m sure by now you’ve seen my Animation Session, my Drawing Demonstration, my time in the recording studio as a Voice Actress, and my Q&A with director Klay Hall and producer Traci Balthazor-Flynn!
While visiting the Disney Toon Studios, we were scheduled to have a Q&A Session with actress Teri Hatcher! She voices Dottie in the film, a forklift who works at Propwash Junction with the main character Dusty. Unfortunately, Teri caught quite an illness and was unable to meet with us bloggers. However, being as awesome as she is, Teri jumped on the phone for a conference call and to answer all our burning questions about PLANES!
Teri Hatcher Biography
If you aren’t already familiar with Teri, let’s chat a little background info on her! This Golden-Globe winning and Emmy nominated actress is probably most well known for her television roles as Susan Mayer on Desperate Housewives, and Lois Lane on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
Growing up in California, she actually majored in mathematics and engineering in college! However she did study acting at the American Conservatory Theater. One of her first television acting jobs was as Amy on the television series The Love Boat, She later appeared in roles on MacGyver, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Quantum Leap to name a few. Teri also had roles in films such as Tomorrow Never Dies, Spy Kids, and Coraline.
On a more personal note, Teri is a single mom to daughter Emerson Rose! As a divorced single mom myself, Teri is such an inspiration on how to stay strong and raise a smart and well-rounded child. I couldn’t have been more excited to chat with her.
The Voice Behind the Forklift
As I mentioned earlier, sadly Teri was sick and unable to join us at the Studios. Though I can’t tell you how much fun it was to still chat with her via phone!
Teri was so gracious and down to earth during the conversation. I could tell she really loved her role in PLANES and had a connection to Dottie! While Dottie is a tough girl, who is a go-getter, tells it how it is, and an overall strong character, she does have a compassionate and caring side, especially when it comes to Dusty. As a mom, Teri was able to relay that nurturing side of Dottie to the audience with the tone and mannerisms of her voice.
When asked how she balances work and life as a mom, Teri answered that it isn’t always as easy and glamorous as it looks. However, moms are unique in the way that they have the ability to just give give give! I remember nodding in agreement. As a mom who works in an office outside of my home, I know that sometimes we have no choice but to keep going. Teri is the same way. She noted that she just keeps going and stays focus on both roles for her job and for her daughter.
When asked about her favorite part of PLANES, I loved Teri’s answer! She noted the gorgeous scenes throughout PLANES and I have to agree. As you see the competition around the world, some of the scenes are just breathtaking. Her other favorite part was when Dottie demonstrates to Dusty what will happen to him when he tries to fly. This scene is seriously LAUGH OUT LOUD hilarious! Such a funny part! It will have you in stitches laughing.
As the conversation continues, I could tell Teri really enjoyed being part of this movie. She noted what a privilege it is to have a part, big or small, in a Disney film! She can’t wait for her future grandchildren and family to enjoy PLANES in the years to come, the same way she and her daughter enjoy the Disney classic, The Aristocats.
