This week I participated in the Salute the Troops Virtual Run to benefit the USO! The run was a virtual race hosted by the blog RayofFitness. If you aren’t familiar with the USO, they aim to lift the spirits of America’s troops and their families through centers, entertainment and innovative programs and services.
For this race there was a 5K, 10K, or Half Marathon option. At the time of registration I opted to run in the 5K. I’m thinking maybe in the future I might bump up my distance and see how I do in 10K races. My time for this run was not one of the best. I’m really starting to feel the pain of running in cold weather. The freezing air definitely makes you push harder!
With the weather now steadily in the 30s, I’m slowing down on how often I run. I actually don’t even go on my walks anymore because I usually have my son with me and I don’t want to subject him to the freezing cold weather. Luckily I’ll have access to a treadmill and hopefully can keep running that way.
Tomorrow is the big day! I run my first 10K in the Annapolis Running Classic. Already picked up my bib, got my compression socks laid out, and I will be ready to to start when the gun goes off at 7 AM.
I do have another race this weekend for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Fingers crossed that my bib arrives today! I also have a challenge to benefit Operation Enduring Warrior that I’m participating in. As for other runs on the horizon… I have one to benefit the One Boston Fund in January, and another with a local moms running club in February.
All opinions are 100% my own.
