Ever since becoming a momma, many aspects of my life have changed. One that I never thought about pre-baby was what music to listen to in the car once he arrived. Silly? I thought so at first, but I soon realized I simply could not play the music I used to while my little one rode with me. Now where to find kid-friendly music that is still listenable and will not drive parents up a wall? Well, this is where The Pop Ups come to the rescue! Their latest album Radio Jungle is now available for you and your child’s listening pleasure.
The Pop Ups began as a personal challenge for two Brooklyn musicians looking to make something that their friends could feel good about enjoying with their young families. Jason Rabinowitz and Jacob Stein set the bar high when they decided to write and record a really good album in just a week in Jason’s home studio. Calling themselves The Pop Ups, they distributed the demos to friends and were overwhelmed by the positively exuberant responses from both parents and kids.
Sugar Mountain News generously sent me a CD copy of Radio Jungle, the latest album by The Pop Ups! Now how do I describe their music? This Brooklyn duo does an awesome job of mixing a pop and rock sound with an indie vibe that is kid-friendly. Should we go ahead and just coin the term “kindie” right now? I love that their songs are fun and bubbly! Sure this might be music for children, but mom and dad will definitely enjoy the sons as well.
My son absolutely loved dancing aka bouncing to their music. The songs are simple and great to sing along with. Yes, I found myself humming the songs later in the day at the office or while running errands. These are definitely catchy tunes!
Another aspect I love is that some songs have an educational value to them, while some are just plain silly fun! I love that The Pop Ups mix it up. The album is great for singing along while traveling in the car, or even playing as background music during play time.
Some of my son’s favorite tracks included Box of Crayons, Pop Up City, and Best Fruit!
Here’s a clip of my son “dancing” to Pop Up City, a track off of Radio Jungle. Please excuse the little mess he made with his sippy cup and bowl before I filmed this:
