Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me…
I can still remember the first time I rode the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disney World at the age of four. I was nervous at first. Being just four, the skeletons, the storm, the dark… it all seemed a little bit scary. But after I survived that “oh so big” drop, I could hear the pirates singing, and I was able to enjoy the rest of the ride! And may have then begged my parents to ride it a few more times… and convinced them to buy me one of those paper mâché parrots from the Pirate’s Bazaar Gift Shop (which I still own and hangs in my loft to this day.)
Remembering my first trip to Disney when I was four, I decided then to take my son to Disney World when he turned four. Any guesses on his favorite ride in the Magic Kingdom? Yup! PIRATES! Unlike me though, he was not scared, and actually laughed at me for thinking the “drop” was big way back then.
So why am I rambling on and on about the Pirates ride? Well mostly because it pinpoints back to how long I’ve been a fan of the franchise! Even before the world was introduced to Jack Sparrow… I mean CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow, as a kid I was all about all things pirates.
This is why I was beyond excited when Disney invited me to Los Angeles to attend the red carpet premiere and press junket for the latest PIRATES film… PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES! My son’s jaw literally dropped when I told him. It’s often that he too becomes super excited for all things PIRATES related…
…mostly because he was thinking about all the PIRATE swag I’ll bring back for him. But I’m just going to pretend it was because he is genuinely excited for his momma to walk the red carpet.
In addition to PIRATES, I will also attend an event related celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Disney animated classic BAMBI.
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
Everyone’s favorite swashbuckling anti-hero is back! Johnny Depp returns to the big screen portraying one of his most iconic characters, Captain Jack Sparrow. This time around, his adventures will bring him face to face with deadly ghost sailors, led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (played by Javier Bardem). Salazar has escaped from the mysterious Devil’s Triangle, and is now bent on killing every pirate at sea… especially Jack!
In order to defeat Salazar, Jack must team up with new allies to seek a powerful artifact. Joining him on this adventure is Henry, a young man looking to reconnect with his father (Ooooo, who could his father be?).
Then there is Carina, a head strong astronomer who is also on her own journey to discover the artifact.
And what is the powerful artifact that grants its possessor total control over the seas? None other than the Trident of Poseidon!
So what will I be doing out in Los Angeles while promoting PIRATES? As I mentioned above, one highlight is attending the red carpet premiere!! Don’t worry Disney. I don’t plan to break out any old pirate costumes from way back when… (For the record, I was working a community Halloween event. Or maybe I do like to randomly dress like a pirate…). Red carpet dress shopping is happening now!
As for the press junket, I don’t have a finalized interview list YET. Though be on the lookout for announcements in the next week! Trust me, I’ll let you know ASAP which talent we are interviewing!
While in town I will also have the opportunity to stop by the Disney Archives to learn about the history of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” attraction. And how could I possibly attend a PIRATES event without taking the time to visit where it all started… Disneyland? Of course this trip won’t be complete until I go and experience the ride first hand once again!
Speaking of the ride, check out this Pirates of the Caribbean “Legacy” Featurette! It details how the franchise went from a ride at a theme park, to a world-renown global phenomenon.
In addition, to celebrate the film’s upcoming release, check out this PIRATES Activity Pack! Activities include a maze, creating your own spy glass, and much much more.
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES is in theaters May 26, 2017 in 3D, RealD 3D and IMAX 3D!
As part of my trip to Los Angeles, I will also have the opportunity to attend an event centered around the Walt Disney Signature Collection release of BAMBI!
BAMBI will be available for home entertainment on May 23 for Digital HD, and on June 6 for Blu-ray! As part of the film’s 75th anniversary, my fellow bloggers and I will get to sit down and participate in a conversation with Donnie Dunagan (voice of “Bambi”) and Peter Behn (voice of “Thumper”)! How amazing is that?
Overall I’m just thrilled to head to LA next week for another great Disney adventure. I can’t wait to share with you everything I learn and see! And who knows… I may even encounter a pirate or two…
