Every so often I come across a story that absolutely tugs at my heart strings and brings me to tears within seconds. THIS is one of those stories. Meet little Owen, who was once an energetic and rambunctious 3 year old. As a mom of an almost 3 year old, I know how full of life boys are at this age.
Sadly on December 15th, Owen suddenly fell into a coma. He became paralyzed and was unable to breathe on his own. Little Owen was diagnosed with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, or ADEM. ADEM is in the same vein as Traverse Myelitis and attacks the spinal cord and brain. It absolutely broke my heart that this adorable little boy had to experience this! Seeing this story via Chive Charities, I just knew I had to tweet it out! It was later when I saw a post in the Chive Maryland Group did I learn that Owen’s father Jonathan is an active member of the Indiana Chive group, and a strong supporter of Chive Charities. I’m always happy to help out a fellow Chiver when I can! While reading the story, I think I had full on tears when I learned that for his birthday, Owen asked friends and families to donate to Chive Charities, instead of giving him gifts. Now that’s parenting done right! At only 3 years old Owen already understood the importance of helping others and doing what we can to help the community around us.
It breaks my heart to know that Owen is still in the ICU and unable to breathe on his own. There is a strong possibility that Owen will recover!! Great news right? Then not so great news is that the medical bills are piling up for his family.
Owen opened his heart to help Chive Charities… so now it’s time for us to open our hearts and help out Owen and his family in any way that we can! Please consider making a donation to Owen’s Medical Fund via the GoFundMe website.
Honestly I wish I could have donated more… but how about this… If any of my fellow mid-atlantic Chivers/Chivettes make a donation, come find me at the NYE Party and I might just have a surprise for you! Except for the King. No surprise for you since you owe me an email with something Very Important attached to it.
I was not financially compensated for this posting. I just think it’s for a good cause and wanted to share! All opinions are my own.
