Every time this date rolls around I often find myself lost for words. Twelve years ago I still remember getting ready for class when I heard of the attacks. Living in the Washington DC area, fear and panic took over, while my heart was absolutely broken for New York City. I remember going to my class where our teacher ushered us to the local “pub” on campus so we could watch the coverage on the big screen TV. I still remember sitting there watching live as the plane hit the second tower. Shock and disbelief…
Today we remember the innocent lives lost, the first responders who fought so valiantly to save them, and all those who volunteered and jumped in to help this country recover from such horrific attacks. Though I have a request today… while you take your moment to remember what happened on September 11, 2001, please take a moment to remember the lives lost last year on September 11, 2012. Last year the American diplomatic mission at Benghazi, in Libya, was brutally attacked. As a result, four American lives were lost.
Over the years I’ve developed close and personal relationships and friendships with military personnel, veterans, and those I lovingly refer to as “govies.” I remember after September 11th watching several of my freshman classmates immediately drop out of school and join the armed forces. Their courage and dedication was something to be admired. I don’t think I could ever express enough my gratitude and appreciation to all those who are brave enough to fight and defend our country. These individuals put their life on the line and work to no end for us, America. To say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU never seems nearly enough…
