Back in 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day. The week which this date falls upon is more commonly known as National Police Week. Here in Washington DC, Police Week is a very BIG deal. Thousands upon thousands of law enforcement officers join together in DC for a week of events in their honor, but also to remember and memorialize their fallen comrades.
If you are in Washington, DC for National Police Week (or really for any reason in general!), please take a moment to check out the schedule of events. Feel free to share with friends and family! Please remember the Candlelight Vigil is TONIGHT!
Can’t physically attend Police Week, but would still like to virtually honor an officer? The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund has created a virtual candle wall where you can dedicate a candle to a law enforcement officer! Simply visit UnitedByLight to light a candle via donation.
For more information on Police Week, you can visit their website, or check out the Facebook page of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, who is the sponsor of tonight’s candlelight vigil.
