While I attended an expense paid trip by Disney to the Monsters University Premiere, all opinions are 100% my own.
By my lucky stars and Disney’s generosity, I attended the Monsters University World Premiere and Tailgate earlier this week on June 17th. To say the experience was amazing is a complete understatement. If anyone knows how to put together a fabulous premiere event, it is Disney and the El Capitan Theater! Twenty-four other bloggers and I arrived on the Blue Carpet decked out in Monsters University’s school colors, royal blue and white. Given that blue is an MU color, the red carpet was absent and replaced with a fun BLUE carpet for attendees to walk.
The carpet was decked out with MU signage everywhere! You truly felt like you were getting ready to walk onto campus going underneath the big MU Stone Arch. Surrounded by gothic-style gates, the event planners really hit the nail on the head with the design and elements of the blue carpet area. As I walked into the Tailgate section, I loved how it took me back to my “Spring Fling” University days where vendor tents were set up all over the place!
Since I’m a total sports nerd, I was beyond excited to see Desmond Howard and Lee Corso host the ESPN College Scareday! I was able to stand right by their desk to watch the interviews live and close up. Just a few of the celebrities they interviewed included Wayne Brady, Karina Smirnoff, and Bobby Moynihan. Definitely my favorite part of the tailgate! Aside from Mike and Sulley, I did spot a few other recognizable faces.
Now silly me forgot to eat before heading out for the Tailgate. Luckily for my growling stomach, the event was catered, and boy did the vendors go all out with the deliciousness! The diverse group of vendors included nationally recognizable names (such as Auntie Anne’s, Wolfgang Puck, Subway), as well as local chefs, bakeries, and restaurants.
I do have to give a special shout-out to Subway. They generously provided me with meal, lunch bag, and t-shirt. However that wasn’t all… I tweeted out a photo of Subway’s offerings and it wasn’t soon after that I received a direct message from them asking me to return to the booth. As a “thank you”, Subway gave me a wonderful card, even mentioning they would love to try my coconut Sulley & Mike cookies, along with a $50 Gift Card! Here is a big THANK YOU back to Subway, as my household loves this franchise. Other delicious meal offerings included mac n cheese, burgers, burritos, caprese salads, pasta, and much more.
An aspect I loved about this “Blue Carpet” Premiere that made it different from other events is how family-friendly they made the environment! The Tailgate included games, arts and crafts, and a Monsters-in-Training obstacle course for kids. Plus Mike and Sulley were walking around ready for hugs! It was so cool to see many attendees accompanied by their children who were obviously very excited to see the latest Disney Pixar film. The kids didn’t have all the fun though. Yes, I even joined in at one of the craft booths and made my own monsters’ eyes headband.I also created a Monsters University ID. How fun is that? Definitely cool to be back at school. I felt like an official student!
Big thanks to Melanie from Kate n’ Kaboodle for snapping the photos of my Monsters Headband and MU ID action!
The El Capitan is such a majestic and historic theater, that it felt so surreal to be there to watch the Monsters University World Premiere. I sat with my fellow bloggers as we watched the film in 3D. A review of the film is coming soon, but if you are a fan of Monsters, Inc. you definitely need to see this movie! Actually, even if you aren’t a fan of Monsters, Inc. you should give the franchise a second look and definitely see Monsters University!
Once the movie was over, we exited the theater to be greeted by the crisp breezy Los Angeles evening weather. I loved see the El Capitan’s Monsters University sign all light up against the dark sky! I just had a snap a photo. It wasn’t until I turned to leave did I also notice how close I was to the Roosevelt Hotel!

Monsters University Pep Squad Performance
As you can see from my Instagram photos, the Tailgate included performances from both the Pep Squad and Marching Band of Monsters University! They were so fun to watch. I was able to capture one of their rally cheers for your enjoyment. Take a look!
Don’t forget to connect with MONSTERS UNIVERSITY on Facebook and Twitter! The film is released worldwide on June 21st, which is this FRIDAY! Make sure you head to your local theater with the whole family to catch Monsters University. A review is coming soon!
A HUGE THANK YOU to Disney again for all their hard work on this film and event planning. I had an absolutely amazing time at the Tailgate and Premiere and can’t thank them enough for their generosity. Thank you!
