I can’t tell you how excited I am that summer is finally here! When I think of this warm weather season, my mind immediately jumps to daydreaming about all the time I will spend outside. I think of the beach, the wharfs in Newport, the docks of Annapolis, window shopping in DC, music festivals, vacations, running in races, backyard BBQs, just to name a few. One of my absolutely favorite summer activities though is just to spend time out on my porch. We have a covered balcony off of our living room, and we spend quite a bit of time out there! Hands down one of my favorite things to do out there is just to relax, enjoy a yummy snack, like M&M’s® found at Walmart, while reading one of my favorite books after a long day at work. (Pssst, be sure to keep reading to learn a sweepstakes with the chance to WIN a $100 Walmart e-gift card!)
Speaking of snacks… I have a delicious treat for you that pairs perfectly with relaxation and summertime. It’s nice to cool off with ice cream, or satisfy my sweet tooth with Life Savers®. However one of my favorite treats to enjoy while reading is M&M’s® Summer Popcorn Munch!
I’ve included an easy tutorial below. Trust me, you’ll want to try this! Plus it goes great with a refreshing Dr Pepper® Float.
M&M’s® Summer Popcorn Munch
Ingredients
Bag of microwave popcorn
3 tbsp of butter
1.5 cups of mini marshmallows
1 bag of Vanilla Bark or Candy Coating
1 bag of white chocolate chips
M&M’s®
peanuts
Directions
First off go ahead and pop that popcorn. Place it in a greased bake ware dish or on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper.Place the butter in a saucepan with the heat set on low. Slowly stir the mini marshmallows into the melting butter. You don’t have to let the marshmallows completely melt, but just so that they soften. Drizzle the mixture on top of your popcorn. Proceed to melt the candy coating. Once that mixture is melted, pour on top of the popcorn as well. Do this quickly has the mixture hardens back up on the fast side.
Have your M&M’s® ready! While the candy coating is still wet on the popcorn, sprinkle in the candy and mix well.
Once you stir them in, add in your peanuts! Again, make sure you do this quickly while the candy coating is still wet. Feel free to add fun colorful sprinkles or pretzels bits to the mixture.
Once you’ve added all your desired extra ingredients, place the popcorn munch in the refrigerator. I usually leave mine in for an hour. After the chocolate has harden, that means the popcorn is ready to serve! Use a knife to break the popcorn up in your desired size chunks.
Alternately, you could take the popcorn munch out of the refrigerator 15 to 30 minutes before you would like to consume it. This way it “softens” a bit, and then proceed to cut the batch into squares. However, as I mentioned before, I’m a busy mom. I just want to relax. So quickly breaking up the munch is the way I go!
Now the munch is ready for me to sit back and enjoy summer with a good book (and my favorite snacks!)
Of course it is always nice to have some company! He sure is always happy to join his momma out on the porch so he can have some fun in the sun.
