You know what I love about summer? The gorgeous weather that allows me to spend time outside enjoying what nature has to offer. Not lately though! It has been so unbearably hot and humid here in Maryland lately. Being outside is the LAST thing I want to do. Give me my couch, air conditioning, and ice cold beverages please.
So recently I found myself avoiding the heat by movie marathoning one afternoon. Being the Marvel nerd that I am, of course one of my picks was 2011’s THOR. I figured I’d sneak a viewing in since I can’t wait to see THOR: THE DARK WORLD out later this year. Now recently a buddy of mine had made me the most AMAZING burger I’ve ever had. Now if you’ve seen THOR, you might remember this scene where he is shoveling food like no tomorrow in the restaurant:
I had a little chuckle to myself thinking “Boy… Thor could really use some of bestie’s burgers. That would fill him up!” Then came the idea that well… why should we keep these slammin’ burgers to ourselves? So here you go… here’s the recipe for the Mighty Stuffed Burger… perfect for anyone as hungry as Thor!
Ingredients
1 1/4 pounds of ground beef (preferably 93% fat free)
Black pepper
Sea salt
2 shots of Captain Morgan Black Rum
Green pepper
Colby cheese
Monterey Jack cheese
Pepper Jack cheese
1/2 cup of salsa
Directions
So first let’s work on the “stuffing” of the burger. We like to use three different types of cheeses: Colby, Monterey Jack, and Pepper Jack. Really feel free to use whatever cheese you prefer… but of course I’m going to say that these are the best options for flavoring with the burgers! Also take the green pepper in cut it into slices as shown below. This particular cut makes them perfect to sit right in the burger patty.
Now onto the burger meat! You want to mix your raw ground beef with the half of cup of salsa. You can pick any salsa you desire, whether mild, medium, or hot. Add in a dash of sea salt and ground black pepper for more flavoring. Pour in 2 shots of the Captain Morgan Black Rum. Mix all the ingredients well together so that the flavor is spread throughout the beef.
Now go ahead and make your first layer of patties. Keep in mind, these are STUFFED burgers. So the first patty is just the bottom. No need to make them too big. Out of the pound and quarter of meat, we were able to make six nice size burgers.
Once you are done creating the bottom of each patty, place two slices of cheese and green pepper on top as shown below. This is the “STUFFED” part of the burger… the part that makes them oh-so-delicious.
Proceed to create the top patty for each burger. The cheese and green pepper slice(s) should now be encased in the burger meat.
Now if you have the grill going… feel free to cook the burgers above the flame! At the moment of documenting this recipe for you, a grill was unavailable. We decided to cook the burgers in a pan on the stove top instead. Cook the burgers on one side, then flip them to the other side to cook. Cover the burgers and let them simmer to really cook the inside as well. You don’t need to cook the burgers well done. However, give them enough to cook to melt the cheese and soften the pepper.
Once the burgers are done, go ahead and serve! Feel free to add condiments of your liking. I prefer mine with just ketchup, while BFF adds the works of ketchup, mustard, and mayo. Either way you dress the burgers, even plain with no condiments, they are still absolutely delicious, and filling!
If you have an appetite, they definitely satisfy. Each burger comes out to a half-2/3 of a pound. I was absolutely STUFFED after just one.
Now of course while stuffing my face, I mentioned how I can’t wait for November to roll around to catch the latest installment of the THOR series. Can’t wait either? Well to hold you over until then, cook yourself a burger and check out the trailer below:
