With summer here, I have getting in shape on my mind! What better way to get in shape than moving towards a healthier lifestyle. One way to do this is switching out our bread to a lower calorie option… Arnold® Healthfull® bread! With only 80 calories per slice, I love that Arnold® Healthfull® breads are made with 100 percent whole grain flour, which is a great source of fiber. Even better, Arnold® Healthfull® contains no high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors, or preservatives. Furthermore, the Whole Grains Council Arnold® Healthfull® Bread is certified by the American Heart Association! Sounds like the better bread option to me!
Arnold® Healthfull® offers three varieties, packed with better for you ingredients.: Flax & Sunflower, Steel Cut Oats & Honey, and Nuts & Seeds. I have to say, all three varieties sound amazingly delicious. So I decided to swap out my usual bread brand for the new Arnold® Healthfull® bread. I headed to my local grocery store and quickly found the Steel Cut Oats & Honey variety to try.
I usually pack myself sandwiches for lunch so I was super excited to test out some of my favorite sandwiches with this new bread. Let me just say, I think the bread made my sandwiches taste even more delicious! Just because something is “better” for you, doesn’t mean it has less taste! Check out the two tutorials below for my favorite sandwiches: Spicy Turkey BLT and Tuna Avocado Melt.
Spicy Turkey BLT Sandwich
One of my favorite sandwiches to make for myself is a Spicy Turkey BLT! It has everything I love… a spicy bite and BACON! Since I’m trying to be more health conscious though, I actually use turkey bacon and bake it, as oppose to frying it in a pan.
First get your ingredients together. Arnold bread of course! Plus sliced turkey, Havarti cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon, mayo, and a chili sauce such as Sriracha. As I mentioned before, I baked my bacon for this sandwich. Don’t know how? No worries. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees, and bake the bacon on a foil covered cookie sheet for 10 to 15 minutes depending on how many slices you want to bake.Take your mayo and chili sauce and add them together into a small bowl. How much you want is your choice! Now mix mix mix! Make sure the mixture is creamy and well blended together. Add in more of each sauce to taste if you wish. For instance if you want it to be more spicy, add in more chili sauce.Once you’ve created the creamy spicy sauce, spread it on both slices of your Arnold® Healthfull® bread.Once that is done, add your lettuce, tomato, and bacon! You can’t have a BLT those three key ingredients. I like to use Romaine as my lettuce since it is packed with iron. Also tomatoes are a rich source of vitamins A and C and folic acid. Bacon of course include protein.Once that is done, add on your turkey and Havarti cheese. Protein and dairy are always a great addition to any sandwich!… and there you go! A Spicy Turkey BLT, perfect for lunch.
Tuna Avocado Melt
Another favorite sandwich of mine is a tuna melt. I like to add avocado to mine! I love snacking on avocados because they are packed with disease-fighting antioxidants.
First you’ll want to gather your ingredients along with your bread: tuna, Swiss cheese, tomato, and avocado. Make sure you toast your bread first!Spread your tuna fish on the toasted bread. Add a tomato slice on top. Then place the Swiss cheese on top of that. Zap it in the microwave very briefly, just enough to melt the cheese enough on top.Now it’s time to add your avocado! I like to slice my avocados as seen below. Place the other slice of toast on top and there you go! Here’s a hint though, if you want to make it a spicy version, mix the tuna fish with the creamy spicy sauce I instructed on how to make above for the turkey sandwich. Trust me, it’s delicious!Hopefully my sandwiches have inspired you to try Healthfull® with your sandwiches!
