Who else is excited for KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS to hit theaters this August? I know I am!! Definitely looks like an interesting and unique film. If you are a fan of films such as CORALINE, PARANORMAN, and THE BOXTROLLS, you’ll definitely want to check out this epic adventure from the acclaimed animation studio, LAIKA. KUBO arrives in theaters on August 19!
This film features an amazing voice cast, including the talents of Charlize Theron, Art Parkinson, Ralph Fiennes, George Takei, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Brenda Vaccaro, Rooney Mara, and Matthew McConaughey. The tale centers around kindhearted Kubo (Parkinson), who lives a quiet, normal life in a small village by the sea. One day a spirit from the past turns his life upside down by re-igniting an age-old vendetta! Havoc unfolds as monsters then chase after Kubo. In order to survive, he must locate a magical suit of armor of a legendary Samurai warrior… who just happens to be Kubo’s late father.
On his quest, he joins forces with Monkey (Theron) and Beetle (McConaughey) to solve the mystery of his fallen father. He then must battle gods and monsters, including the vengeful Moon King (Fiennes) and the evil twin Sisters (Mara), to unlock the secret of his legacy.
Now want to hear something even cooler? LAIKA will present an innovative event at Universal Studios Hollywood’s Globe Theater, entitled “From Coraline to Kubo: A Magical LAIKA Experience.” This will give movie lovers an up-close look at the artistic detail and imagination behind LAIKA’s groundbreaking ten-year filmmaking history, which also includes the Academy Award-nominated films I mentioned above… CORALINE, PARANORMAN, and THE BOXTROLLS. The special event will take place from August 5-14 and is included in the price of admission to the theme park.
“From Coraline to Kubo: A Magical LAIKA Experience,” will showcase the evolution of LAIKA’s unique blend of handcrafted stop-motion animation. I’ve always been impressed with the amazing visual effects seen in these films. Movie fans will be able to see the magic themselves in four imaginatively themed rooms. The extensive display of original sets, puppets and props will immerse guests in their singular, fantastical worlds.
