I love toys that are both fun and serve an educational purpose! When I discovered Kimochis, I quickly fell in love with the concept knowing it would help my son’s emotional intelligence. He has more than enough toys to assist with colors, numbers, shapes, and letters. However, Kimochis assist in helping one develop the skill to identify and control one’s own emotions.
Kimochi (KEY.MO.CHEE) means “feeling” in Japanese. Kimochis® characters come with small pillows with a feeling (happy, sad, silly, brave…) printed on one side, and a corresponding facial expression on the other. A how-to Kimochis® Feel Guide is also included introducing the personalities of each character and offering parents easy tips and engaging activities to help strengthen the parent-child connection and teach children to identify and express feelings in positive ways.
Kimochis generously sent me the Cloud! Now each Kimochi character has a human trait in which they need to work on improving. For the Cloud, his trait is “moodiness”. His short biography reads: Cloud is a bit unpredictable. One day he is happy, the next he is angry, and the next – who knows, maybe sad or even happy again.
This soft plush stands 13 inches high and comes with 3 child-safe feelings (Happy, Sad, and Mad). The squishy plush is of high quality and easily passed the “tug test” to make sure it would not split at the seams during any “rough” play. Though they come in a little cloth satchel, the feelings can easily be stored in Cloud’s front pouch. Cloud’s head can rotate 360 degrees. One side features a smile, while the other side features a frown. The head is very easy for little hands to twist. A Feel Guide comes along with Cloud which includes fun and easy activities to help parents and children connect.
While Baby C maybe be a little young right now to fully understand what feelings are, I’ve been working with him on each one. When he is happy we keep the Happy feeling out and practice putting the Sad and Mad ones away. He loves to pull them back out of the pouch. I turn the head showing Happy and Sad, and then he just loves to point to the eyes and mouth. I think this toy will be very beneficial in the future to his emotional intelligence!
Aside from Cloud, there are several other characters available including Dove, Bella Rose, Clover, Huggtopus, Bug, and Cat. In addition, you can purchase other various “Mixed Feelings” packs that include 6 different Kimochis to add to your collection. Mini versions of each character and books are available for purchase as well.
