One of my favorite animated films of 2016 has to be MOANA, hands down! We loved that this movie was packed with adventures, laughs, and a great message… but you know what else we loved? The music! If you haven’t seen MOANA yet, you are definitely missing out! One of our favorite number is Shiny, performed by Jemaine Clement (yes, that Jemaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords fame).
Clement provides the voice of Tamatoa, a gargantuan coconut crab, in the film. Tamatoa lives in the Lalotai, a realm in which monsters live. As a crab, he is seen as a bottom feeder, much to his dismay! In an attempt to overcompensate, he covers his shell with anything shiny, as well as collecting (or really hoarding!) anything he can get his hands (or claws) on. This includes Maui’s magical fish hook. In the film, Moana is able to distract Tamatoa, so that Maui can retrieve the hook, by getting him to talk about himself through the song “Shiny.” Check out the sequence below featuring the song written by Lin-Manuel Miranda!

My family enjoyed this movie so much, and Tomatoa was such a fun character. I agree, the music from Moana is fantastic!
I will have to see if my grandson would like this movie. We enjoy watching movies with him, and he LOVES music.
my daughter is in love with this movie! my husband enjoyed it as well and he doesn’t like animated films much. thanks for sharing these clips! my daughter is going to get a kick out of watching them.
