After a long busy week at work, a weekend activity that I just know will relax me is cooking and baking! I always look forward to my time in the kitchen where I can just create cuisine of different regions and flavors. One of my favorite styles of cooking is Southern. Thanks to House-Autry Mills breadings and batters, I was able to bring a little bit of southern flavor to a recent get-together.
House-Autry Mills offers a line of traditionally-seasoned breaders and coatings for your favorite proteins such as chicken, seafood, or pork, as well as side dish favorite vegetables. They also offer a selection of mixes for hushpuppies, and biscuit and cornbread. That’s not all though! There are also sauces available, as well as their Southern Baked product line.
When a box of hushpuppy mix arrived from House-Autry, I couldn’t wait to create those delicious treats for my guests. Now
Jalapeno Cheddar Hushpuppies
Ingredients
1 box of House-Autry Mills Hush Puppies mix
2 chopped jalapenos
1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
7/8 cup of water
Directions
As I mentioned above, there are two ways you can make hushpuppies. One way is to fry, and the other is to bake. If you want to deep fry the hushpuppies, preheat your fryer to 375 degrees. Now if you rather bake them, preheat your oven to 425 degrees. In a mixing bowl combine the entire pouch with the jalapenos and cheddar cheese. Pour in the 7/8 cup of water and thoroughly mix. Allow the batter to stand 5 minutes.
Using a teaspoon, take a spoonful of the batter and drop it into the hot oil. Don’t overcrowd the pot! You may want to do one at a time at first until you get the hang of frying them. Fry each on for 3 minutes or until they are golden brown. If you are baking the hushpuppies, place each teaspoon into the cup of a lightly greased 24 mini muffin tin. Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Feel free to sprinkle a little salt and papper on top for taste. I enjoy serving mine with Sweet & Spicy Fiesta Sauce. My guests loved them! Both types of hushpuppies were a hit, thanks to the House-Autry Mills mix. House-Autry Mills is available in thousands of grocery stores across 37 states. Their product line can also be found in restaurants all across the nation!
