Ever since I was a young child I’ve always been a fan of Disney Animation films. I still remember seeing The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast as a child in the movie theaters over and over and over again! Now that I have a little one, I can’t wait to share with him not only the Disney classics from my childhood, but also take him to experience the Disney magic in the movie theaters for himself!
Back in July I headed out to California for a few days of press events and film screenings! One of the movies I had the pleasure of enjoying a sneak preview of was BIG HERO 6. Now at that time the film was still in production, but from the scenes and footage of the film I was able to preview, I have to tell you, it’s going to be awesome!
First a little background on the film…BIG HERO 6 is an action-packed comedy-adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada who lives in San Fransokyo (yes that’s a mash-up of San Francisco and Tokyo!). When Hiro experiences a tragic event in his life, he turns to his closest companion, a robot named Baymax for comfort and friendship. It’s not long before Hiro and Baymax find themselves in the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in their city. In order to solve the mystery, Hiro transforms himself, Baymax, and his group of crazy friends into high-tech heroes!
Pictured above was some great BIG HERO 6 artwork we saw in the hallways of Walt Disney Animation Studios! You can see Hiro and Baymax along with their friends adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred in their new hero transformations!
We were able to chat with Directors Chris Williams and Don Hall, as well as producer Roy Conli, about the film. It was great to hear their insights and thoughts of excitement about the movie! Plus they were kind enough to pose for a group photo!
Conli started off the chat discussing the amazing projects that Disney Animation Studios has produced in recent years. Did you know the research for BIG HERO 6 started right after Disney finished WINNIE THE POOH? That was back in 2011. This film is over 3 years in the making! Fun fact… over 400 people worked on this movie!
Hall and Williams noted that BIG HERO 6 based off a lesser known Marvel comic series of the same title. While the name and characters are the same, the story for Disney’s BIG HERO 6 is completely original. It was really fun to hear about how they came up with the city of San Fransokyo. I love the creativity of combining two cities with so culturally known and recognizable to establish a futuristic setting for a new part of the Marvel universe.
Meet Baymax
So I previously mention Hiro’s companion Baymax. Hiro’s brother Tadashi actually invented the robot as a personal health care companion. Baymax’s role is to assist people with their medical issues. The squishy and inflatable Baymax is absolutely adorable in that his main goal is simply to help people!
Hall and Williams noted that they wanted Baymax to be a squishy “huggable” robot. They headed to Carnegie Mellon University for research and inspiration on robotics. t was there that they saw an inflatable robot arm that inspired the look for Baymax! This cutting edge technology is referred to as soft robotics.Another fun fact about Baymax? The filmmakers were actually inspired by the look of Japanese bells when creating Baymax’s simplistic facial design. How cool is that?

Big Hero 6 Trailer
Don’t forget to connect with Big Hero 6 on Facebook! This film hits theaters on November 7, 2014 and I can’t wait to take my little guy. He absolutely loves robots so I’m sure he’ll get a kick out of seeing BIG HERO 6!
FEAST
I love Disney Shorts! Disney has released some of the most adorable films in their Disney Shorts series. The film shown before BIG HERO 6 is called FEAST.
Now I don’t want to give too much away… but the film will make you laugh and cry! So bring the tissues for this heartwarming tale of a puppy, his bond with his human, their big appetites, and all about the changes of life!
Plus it was great to chat with Director Patrick Osborne about the film! You could really tell he put a lot of heart and soul into the film.

While I attended an expense paid trip by Disney to the press events for Guardians of the Galaxy, 100 Foot Journey, and ABC Family, all opinions are 100% my own. None MommaRambles.com watermarked images provided by Walt Disney Publications.
