One of my goals for 2012 is to get back in shape. Last week I decided I finally needed to get my butt in gear and start. I am out of shape, and there is no excuse for it.
Throughout my life I had always been thin and healthy. I played lacrosse, soccer, did cheerleading, ran cross country, and was a pilates addict. Running a 5K was no big deal. In college, I gained more than my freshman 15, but was able to loose it when I put my mind to it. Over the past years, my weight has gone up and down, but I had always been able to loose it when I wanted.
I’m not one of those people who keep junk food in the house. No sodas, no candy, no chips, no cookies, no cake. My problem was that I would go out too much, eating at restaurants, and drinking drinks with quite a calorie count (hello White Russians and Mud Slides). While dining out, there was never a practice of portion control. This is what got me.
After giving birth, I found myself still 20+ lbs over my normal weight. My focus became more and more about hanging out with my son, and less and less about going to the gym and working out. When he took naps, I should have been going for a run, not sitting on my butt watching TV. I would make excuse after excuse not to go running or pop in a workout DVD. I snacked on Halloween candy and had no self-control when it came to Holiday goodies. I reached the point where I realized that I am at the unhealthiest I’ve ever been. What I was completely missing was that I needed to stay fit to stay healthy to be around for my son!
I never want to reach the point where I cannot run, jump, and play with him. While I feed my son natural and nutritious foods, I need to set an example and eat those same foods in front of him, instead of chowing down on take out. I grew up with a fit mom, who set an example for me to stay fit. Now I need to be that fit mom, to set an example for him to be fit.
The first one is the Cinch Inch Loss Program. Shaklee generously sent me their Cinch Inch Starter Kit, which lasts for 2 weeks. I’ll be posting periodically while I’m on the program. Look for a blog post tomorrow with more details!
The second program I’m doing is Fits Mom for Life by Dustin Mahar. Now the Mommy Blogger Weight Loss Challenge does not start till February 1st. However, Dustin generously sent me one of his workout DVDs so I can start my new fitness routine alongside while I do the Cinch program. When the Challenge starts, I will move to Dustin’s Meal Plan while still using his fitness routine. Look for a blog post or tomorrow with more details!
