I was out with a friend the other night when he made reference to the “winter blues” and feeling quite exhausted lately while he helps his parents take care of his younger brother is going through physical therapy after an accident last year. Another friend chimed in that since a friend’s passing back in November, she still finds herself in moments of sadness. This, I believe, is totally normal and understandable. I asked them what they had done for themselves lately. Both of them have been giving so much, providing comfort to others, they forget to help comfort themselves. We all need comfort and support from time to time. Let’s not forget to “treat” ourselves!
So many times we forget to do simple things for ourselves. Love getting flowers? You don’t need to wait for your man (or woman) to bring you a bouquet. Why not grab one for yourself? Add some vibrant and beautiful colors to your surrounding. It is sure to bring a smile to your face!
My local grocery store florist has $6.99 bouquets of the day. It was always nice to grab a quick bouquet to brighten up the dining room table for dinner, or just to add a nice fragrance to the bedroom. Sure it isn’t 2 dozen red roses, but simple, and beautiful, and that’s all I need.
I know many of us do that New Year resolution of “eating right” and “getting in shape” for 2013. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t just treat yourself once to that delicious sugary sweat you enjoy! For me, it’s chocolates. These truffles from Guylian are some of my favorite around. Ever have those “blah” days where just laying on the couch and watching your favorite movie or television show sounds like the best thing ever? Why not throw your favorite treat into the mix?
Now when I really need comfort and the flowers, and chocolate aren’t cutting it… I plan a Spa Day! Facial, mani, pedi, and a nice massage. We all have different ways of relaxation, and maybe a Spa Day isn’t for you. Maybe take 30 mins out of your evening to soak in the tub, or find time for a yoga session. It’s important that we don’t always stress ourselves and remember to “treat” ourselves. Am I sounding like a broken record?
Flowers and chocolates are nice, and a Spa Day gives me the relaxation I need. However, sometimes it helps just to surround yourself with those who make you happy. Grab a group of your favorites and head to your favorite restaurant. This is exactly why my friends and I have Sushi Nights once a month.

My favorite treat is chocolates or going to my BFF’s and having a movie marathon girl’s night.

I want to join in Sushi night, I love sushi but nobody in my family likes it. However the truffles I would not share with anyone, lol.

Good for you, Ashley! This is a great idea. It’s so important to be kind to ourselves and remember to do something special for ourselves now and then! Love the post.
