Last month I posted about the perfect holiday gift for the special wine lover in your life, whether they enjoy a casual drink or are a true win connoisseur: the California Wine Club! If you recall, as a member of one of their clubs, each month you will receive two bottles of wine. Every wine they feature comes from a real working artisan winery located in California (obviously!) and is backed by their 100% guarantee.
For the past two months, I’ve received a membership to California Wine Club. Last month they delivered two wines that my friends and I were able to enjoy at one of our dinner parties. Unfortunately, December’s shipment had not arrived by the time this posting was due. As you can guess, an adult signature is required upon delivery. Unfortunately, UPS did not deliver on the day that Mom Spark Media informed me was the delivery date. Luckily I’ve been in contact with California Wine Club and their amazing customer service is ensuring I’ll receive the delivery next week. I can’t wait to try the next two wines.
Foods To Pair With Your Wine
Now last month I tried pairings with a Tempranillo, and a Sauvignonn Blanc. So let’s talk about two other types of wine: Merlot and Chenin Blanc!
Chenin Blanc is a white wine with more of a sweet side, with sometimes a slight taste of oak. Now if the wine is more of the sweet variety with a crisp fruity flavor, consider pairing it with a fresh salad and goat cheese. The fresh and acidic taste will help cut down the rich creaminess of the cheese. The wine is also great for pairing with fish, and I even read if you are going to pair it with sushi, go with the California roll! This wind also goes great with vegetables such as squash or zucchini. If there is more of an oak taste to the Blanc, consider pairing it with chicken, game hen, or Cornish hen in a cream-based sauce.
Now onto Merlot! When I think of this red wine, I immediately think steak. Most Merlots are often medium-bodied which means they’ll go great with meat (think burgers too!) in a red wine based sauce, or along caramelized roasted vegetables. It’s your “meats and potatoes” wine! Think of other meats, such as lamb, pork roast, duck, or even turkey. Not a potato fan? Consider pairing the wine with mushrooms, squash, peppers, or even beets.
It doesn’t matter what you decide to serve at your holiday dinners. There is always a California wine to go with any meal. Why not discover more of these wines with the California Wine Club? So if you are still stuck on a gift idea for someone in your life… this gift will allow the recipient to taste and test wines they might not normally come across!
