If there are two things I love aside from friends and family, it is chocolate and animals. Mix the two together with one big heart, and you have Endangered Species Chocolate! Not only do they aim to deliver 100% ethically traded delicious chocolate, but to educate and raise awareness of the growing number of plant and animal species that are disappearing on our planet. Last year, my family had the privilege of adopting Rocco, a male gray wolf, who resides at Wolf Haven International in Washington. Our adoption certificate is proudly displayed in our living room! Knowing that Endangered Species Chocolate focuses on spreading the word of animals in danger, like the gray wolf, I couldn’t want to learn more about this company, what they stand for, and of course… taste their chocolate!
Indianapolis-based Endangered Species Chocolate is a mission-driven company that is passionate about chocolate and the environment. Endangered Species Chocolate is committed to providing chocolate-lovers with premium, all-natural and organic chocolates that are ethically traded and sustainably grown. Adding to the impact of each chocolate bar, Endangered Species Chocolate donates 10—percent of net profits to fund species and habitat conservation.
Endangered Species Chocolate (ESC) generously sent me three of their 3oz. All-Natural Bars! This included the All-Natural Smooth Milk Chocolate featuring the Sea Otter, the All-Natural Dark Chocolate with Mint showcasing the Rain Forest, and lastly the All-Natural Dark Chocolate with Cranberries and Almonds featuring the Gray Wolf.
I love dark chocolate so I was a very happy girl when I opened a package and found two dark chocolate bars. All three were absolutely delicious. Made from natural ingredients, the bars I tested are certified gluten-free and kosher. The Dark Chocolate with Cranberries and Almonds is even vegan! The only downside to ESC, they are so delicious that your friends and family might just try to steal them away from you! Yes, my mom snatched up each bar to try for herself before I could finish. Not that I can blame her! She’s picky about her chocolate and she would have done flips for more!
Not only was the chocolate delicious, but I love the fact that ESC only buys cacao from small family-owned properties where the product is only grown in the natural shade of the forests. Ten percent of the net profits from ESC are donated to various nonprofit organizations, such as the African Wildlife Foundation and Sea Turtles, who are committed to the same mission as ESC. Better yet, ESC has their own 501(c)(3) public charity appropriately titled The Endangered Species Chocolate Foundation. The foundation focuses on assisting in humanitarian projects that benefit cacao farming communities.
Another aspect I love is that the inside of the wrapper is filled with educational and insightful knowledge and facts on the particular plant or animal featured on the cover! Just another step ESC is making to ensure the the message of the mission is out there. Plus it is also just fun to learn about the different species! You never know what fun factoid you must just learn from your chocolate.
Now these All-Natural Chocolate bars are not the only treat that ESC carries! They also have a wide selection of gifts for any occasion including gift packs, chocolate covered fruit, chocolate covered nuts, salty treats, nutty treats, and much more!
