Back in Spring of last year, I was invited to spend the weekend at The Hotel Hershey in the Sweetest Place on Earth… Hershey, PA. I can’t rave enough about the top notch service I received at the Hotel, and it’s famous relaxation destination… The Spa At The Hotel Hershey, aka The Chocolate Spa! While visiting, I enjoyed a Sweet Feet pedicure treatment, and then had the ultimate unwinding experience in the Oasis Lounge. Today I’m sharing with you a super easy tutorial for DIY Chocolate Sugar Scrub, inspired by my stay at the Chocolate Spa!
Now in my mind, I made a mental note that my friends and I had to visit the Chocolate Spa during our next Girls Weekend Away. But why wait till my next Girls trip to enjoy “chocolate”pampering? Okay I simply can’t beat the ambience of the Chocolate Spa. My bathroom comes nowhere near as amazing as that spa. But until I can arrange my next visit, I can whip up this easy Chocolate Sugar Scrub while I daydream of when I’ll return to the Chocolate Spa.
Check out the easy tutorial below…
Ingredients
2 cups loosely packed brown sugar
1 cup of solid coconut oil
1/3 cup of olive oil
2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder (Hershey’s)
A few drops of Coconut Extract
Mini Chocolate Chips (optional)
The coconut oil is traditionally known for its anti-aging properties when applied to your skin. But did you also know it contains the anti-aging antioxidant, Vitamin E, which is quite essential for healthy skin growth. When the brown sugar element of the scrub wipes away dead skin cells, the coconut oil will repair the skin, keeping it smooth and protecting against future cracking from dry skin.
Another ingredient, olive oil, also contains Vitamin E. Olive oil, however, unlike many moisturizers on the market, won’t clog your pores. The oil can deeply penetrate into your skin, providing a cleansing effect when you apply the scrub. Who knew you could find all these great beauty boosters in your kitchen?!?
Directions
Simply gather all your ingredients needed for the sugar scrub, with the exception of the chocolate chips if you choose to use them. Then combine them together in a large mixing bowl. I like to use a wooden spoon, and sometimes even my hands, to mix together the elements. You will want to mix until the solid coconut oil pieces are completely broken down. You do not want any chunks left in the mixture.
I like to store my scrubs in mason jars. The recipe above creates a little more than enough mixture for one mason jar.
Now when I give this scrub as a gift, I like to either create layers with chocolate chips in between, or just simply top off the scrub with a few chips.
The chocolate chips provide an extra boost to the chocolate aroma. Don’t worry, the chocolate washes right off your skin when you remove the scrub. I use the scrub in my shower, and I have never had an issue with chocolate remaining on my skin.
Though I most use this scrub on my body, you can use it on your face or lips. All ingredients are safe and completely edible! So no worries if a bit of the scrub just happens to find its way through your lips LOL. I will say it is quite yummy, but I much prefer to use the scrub for its designated skin care use.
If you enjoy this DIY Chocolate Sugar Scrub, I definitely recommend taking a trip to the Chocolate Spa and experiencing first-class pampering among the sweet chocolate aromas that Hershey is known for! While I give my praises to The Spa At The Hotel Hershey, soon they won’t be your only relaxation choice in the Sweetest Place on Earth…

Although I attended an expense paid trip by Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company in 2016, all opinions and thoughts expressed are 100% my own.

Oh my, this would smell heavenly for sure!
How long can you keep it before it starts going bad?
Ashley says
Hi Heather! I like to use up my scrubs within two weeks. I’ve never had an issue with them going bad. As long as you keep them in an airtight container and scoop out with a dry hand/spoon, you should be good! I think sugar scrubs tend to last longer too if you store them in the refrigerator.

Ok – I love a mint scrub. I will have to make a chocolate mint scrub, now! This does solve the problem of “how do I bathe myself in chocolate.” LOL
