As my son loves dinosaurs, he is super excited to see Disney•Pixar’s THE GOOD DINOSAUR, out this November. I know it will be awhile till the film is released, but in anticipation, this past weekend we decided to make Dino Fossil Eggs!
Below I’ve included an easy step by step tutorial to create these Dino Fossil Eggs! I can’t tell you how simple enough they are to make, that even your littlest of helps can assist you in the process, and have a lot of fun doing so!
Dinosaur Fossil Eggs
Items Needed
Hard boiled eggs (I used 6)
3 cups of cold water
Packet of unsweetened Kool Aid mix
Clear plastic wrap
Directions
First my son and I cracked the eggs by gently tapping on them, and rolling them on the table to ensure cracks all over. Be careful not to take the shells off the eggs!Take a bowl, and pour in the 3 cups of cold water. Now it’s time to let your little helper pour in the packet of Kool Aid mix. Then stir the water really well so that the mix dissolves and the water is now a bright color. This is another easy task where your little helper can assist you!Drop in your eggs so that they are submerged into the mix. The color of the Kool Aid will appear within the cracks of the egg!Cover the bowl with the plastic wrap. Place the bowl in the refrigerator, leaving it in there for several hours. I think ours stayed in for 4 hours before my son just couldn’t wait any longer to check them out. If you can, try this tutorial at night so you can leave the eggs in overnight.Once they sat in the refrigerator for awhile, pull them out. We actually used three colors total. You’ll see that the eggs are deeply dyed with each color. Crack open the eggs and wash them off. The final product should look like a dinosaur fossil egg! The ones above that appear brown, we actually used the “Grape” flavor Kool Aid! You’ll see below that they turned out with bluish-purplish cracks. Someone was certainly excited to show off his Dino Eggs! Now if I could just convince him that hard boiled eggs, no matter how Dino-Cool Looking they are, aren’t the best movie theater snack for when we go to see THE GOOD DINOSAUR…
