As you know, over the weekend I attended the Hollywood premiere for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES at the Dolby Theatre. Over the past 13 years, PIRATES has grown into a global phenomenon that has captured the attention of audiences of all ages. Captain Jack Sparrow has become an iconic character in film history. DEAD MEN TELLS NO TALES cements Captain Jack has a household name once again. PIRATES opens this upcoming weekend, on May 26. This is not a film to a miss!
When Disney first announced DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES as the title for the latest PIRATES film, it was no surprise to me. I immediately thought back to hearing legendary voice actor, Paul Frees, quote the line in a ghostly tone on famous Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disney Parks. You hear the line again in CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL, uttered by Cotton’s parrot.
With the title DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES, serving almost as a “homage” to the classic ride, I actually saw the film as a throwback to the first installment where everyone fell in love with the adventures of a quirky pirate. DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES brought everything back to the big screen to remind audiences why we enjoy these tales so much.

Something For Everyone: When I try to think of one word to sum up PIRATES… well, I can’t. Okay, maybe the word “WOW.” The fifth installment of this hit franchise is the summer blockbuster that has something for everyone.
Action? The film’s got it. Comedy? Yup, that too. Supernatural? Yes, you’ll see ghosts, curses, ships that eat other ships…
Oh is romance more your style? You’ll see that in PIRATES too! No matter what your reason is for seeing this film, just know, this is definitely the type of film you want to see on the big screen!
A Story With Heart: A pleasant surprise in DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES was a story line that will you hit right in the feels. Now the film starts with the tale of a father and son looking to reconnect…
But there is another plot point that I didn’t see it coming, which are my favorite kind of twists in tales. Now don’t get me wrong… PIRATES is still packed with swashbuckling fun and adventure. Over the years audiences has grown to love these characters. It was interesting to see the film take a direction that may come as a surprise. But trust me… it’s a good one.
Jack’s Backstory: Speaking of stories… If you ever wondered how Jack came to be Captain Jack Sparrow… DEAD MEN TELLS NO TALES actually tells this tale! Thanks to a computer generated “youthification” process, Johnny Depp still plays Jack in his younger years. You will finally learn his backstory, and it’s quite an interesting one. Not one I expected!
New Characters: With any franchise, it can be hit or miss with adding new characters. I believe DEAD MEN TELLS NO TALES hit the mark. Captain Salazar is a creepy, revengeful villain, who definitely ranks high on the “bad guy scale.” He’s the kind of ghost that nightmares are made of.
Henry is another new character who ties into the story well. When you meet him, you soon learn why he is connected to the PIRATES story lines and understand the intricate part he plays. He’s the one that sets this film into action.
Another new face is Carina Smith. I love love love this character and what she stands for. Accused of being a witch because of her love of astronomy, Carina is a strong willed woman who shows young girls in the audience to never give up on your mission of life. She’s feisty, independent, and determined.
Ghost Sharks: Yes, you read that right. I said “ghost sharks.” There is a don’t miss scene that involves sharks, and yes they are ghosts. You may have seen pieces of this scene in the trailer, and it’s a nail biter! Honestly there is no better way to describe it than “awesome.”
My son is very excited to see the new PIRATES film. What sold him on going to the theater? The fact that there are sharks, who are ghosts. It may sound silly, but the intense scene with these supernatural deep sea creatures was one of my favorites.
So there you go. You have adventure and comedy, with a heartfelt story, featuring new faces… and yes, there are ghost sharks. If you were a fan of the franchise, especially the first installment, CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL, you will enjoy catching DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES on the big screen.

I have seen all of the other pirate movies and I cannot wait to see this one. It looks like it’s going to be one of the best ones yet.
My daughter is finally old enough to watch Pirates of the Caribbean. It would be fun to see all these movies together. This looks like a good one!

We have a problem. My wife and I have seen the previous ones and want to see this one so bad. But my girls haven’t seen any of them yet! They’ll be mad if we go without them!!!
