“Bad girls do it well” ~ M.I.A.
Can’t argue with those wise words. Sometimes we just have to enjoy a night and let our inner fierce bad girl out. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet for MALEFICENT, you haven’t seen fierce. That is the first word that comes to mind. Angelina Jolie is FIERCE as one of Disney’s favorite villains, Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty fame.
So after watching the trailer again for this classic retelling, I couldn’t help but get a little inspired. I know I needed a night out, and was digging Maleficent’s sleek look below. Doesn’t it just make you want to grab your man, let out in your inner bad girl, and head out for the night?
I wanted to come up with a look that was fierce, flirty, and paid homage to one of my favorite bad girls. Keeping reading to see how you can get this look, and don’t forget to watch the trailer below!
The Details
The Dress: First let’s start with the dress! My closet may or may not be flowing with little black dresses… Okay it is. Black is a slimming color, what can I say? I love this absolute sleek black dress from Bodycon. It’s simple, yet totally makes a statement that you are boss.
The Shoes: I knew that if I was wearing a basic black dress (no frills, no lace, no sparkle), I would want shoes that stood out! These purple pumps off Etsy definitely make a statement. Pretty much I think any purple pumps would stand out with the black dress, but I love the NASA-inspired stars and cosmic and theme to them. Gives more of a mystical appeal… just like Maleficent herself.
The Clutch: Now with the clutch (or handbag), I didn’t want to get to matchy-matchy with black, or pick one that was purple and have TOO MUCH purple. Throwing in a third color mixes up the look a bit! That’s exactly why I’d go with this Gunne Sax by Jessica McClintock. This adorable please satin frame clutch is perfect for a night out on the town.
The Necklace: I’m loving the purple pop of this Kenneth Jay Lane pave crystal beaded cluster necklace. The sparkle of the crystal gives it more of a little upscale look. It definitely makes a statement! The purple will definitely stand out against a simple black dress.
The Earrings: I decided that if I was making a statement with the shoes and necklace, I’d go simple with the earrings. Studs are perfect to complete the outfit. Tanzanite or amethyst will work perfectly to give a little sparkle to your date night look!
