Who is ready for more Thor? We are! It’s been four year since THOR: THE DARK WORLD was released. So we couldn’t have been more excited when 2017 rolled around and we knew THOR: RAGNAROK was in our future! Today we are chatting about the upcoming film, sharing new images, the new poster (above), and of course, the new trailer!!
When We Last Saw Thor…
At the end of AGE OF ULTRON, Thor decides to return to Asgard. Earlier in the film, the Scarlet Witch shows him a vision of Asgard’s catastrophic future. Thor heads out informing the other Avengers that he needs to learn truth if anything is happening to his home. We don’t see him again until the mid-credits scene of DOCTOR STRANGE. We find Thor back in New York, sitting in Dr. Stephen Strange’s office, informing the Sorcerer Supreme that him and his brother Loki are looking for their father, Odin. Doctor Strange agrees to help them.
THIS LEFT ME WITH SO MANY QUESTIONS!!
Last time we saw Loki in THE DARK WORLD, he was sitting on Odin’s throne of Asgard, impersonating his father. At the time, Thor thought Loki had died in battle. Hopefully RAGNAROK answers how Thor discovers Loki still alive. And what exactly has happened to Odin?
Fast forward to CIVIL WAR… Thor is absent from all the Avengers drama. Luckily for us, he updated the world via YouTube, with what him and his new roommate Darryl were up to… The videos kind of made everyone forget #TeamIronMan and #TeamCap, and jump to #TeamThor!
RAGNAROK
So here we are… RAGNAROK will hit the big screen in less than four months. Now before I dive too much into discussing the trailer, why don’t you watch for yourself first…
From what I gathered watching both the teaser and trailer, Thor is imprisoned elsewhere in the universe, but unfortunately is without Mjolnir, his mighty hammer, thanks to new-to-MCU villain, Hela.
I’m sure the only thing on Thor’s mind is getting back to Asgard and protecting his home from Hela. But seriously, can we first admire how flawless and ruthless Cate Blanchett looks in her MCU debut? She just might become my new favorite MCU villain! (Sorry Loki…)
So back to Thor stuck in a new land… Sporting a new shorter hair do, he is forced into a deathly gladiatorial contest. But first let’s admire his new hair…
Looks nice, right? So who is his opponent in the deadly game? None other than his former Avenger ally, The Incredible Hulk! As you can guess, the fight doesn’t turn deadly, and the two become buddies once again.
But it still may or may not be clear who exactly “won” the gladiator battle… And did you know, the line from the trailer where Thor says to the crowd that Hulk “is a friend from work,” was actually a suggestion from a child visiting the set via Make-A-Wish? The child suggested the line to Chris Hemsworth on the day they were filming the scene.
Clearly Thor and Loki are reunited once again for more of their brother banter. Part of me wants to believe that Loki will remain on the good side, and help his brother. But then again… the god mischief is known for stirring up trouble…
In the trailer we also meet Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson. She’s a tough Asgardian warrior, who is involved in a business relationship with the Grandmaster. From the looks of it, she eventually teams up with Thor, Loki, and Hulk to help save Asgard.
And speaking of the Grandmaster, played by Jeff Goldblum… comic book fans might recognize him as the brother of The Collector (portrayed by Benicio del Toro in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY).
Like his brother, the Grandmaster is also one of the Elders of the Universe. Some may consider them a group of supervillians, but they are most commonly known for their possessions and playing games.
Also making appearance in RAGNAROK is Fenris Wolf!! Or Fenrir as known in Norse folklore. So for those unfamiliar with the mythology, Ragnarok is actually a series of unfortunate events that include a great battle and natural disasters. In the Marvel comics, Fenris Wolf faces off against Thor more than once, and actually swallows Asgard’s sun and the moon. This brings about Ragnarok and destruction ensues. I’m guessing his appearance in RANGAROK isn’t a good sign for Asgard…
Now the last scene in the trailer I want to point out… THOR IS LIGHTENING! Okay, so we all know that Thor is the god of thunder and lightening. But seriously, how awesome is this scene when he appears to conjure up his powers WITHOUT his hammer???
Seriously. Is it November 3rd yet??? I can’t wait to see the new #TeamThor (Sorry Darryl) on the big screen!
