Right now there is much buzz and excitement surrounding Marvel Studios’ AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, arriving in theatres April 27. But now I’m happy to announce even more excitement that Marvel fans will want to hear… Marvel Studios has begun principal photography in Los Angeles, CA, on its newest film, CAPTAIN MARVEL! According to a recent press release, the production is shooting in and around the greater Los Angeles area, which will also serve as the production base for the film. The production will also shoot on location in Fresno, California, as well as locations in Louisiana, including Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
Mark your calendar down for March 8, 2019, as the film will hit the big screen on that date! That’s just less than one year to go! Captain Marvel will then make an appearance in the untitled AVENGERS 4, arriving in theatres May 3, 2019.
The film stars Academy Award® winner Brie Larson as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, a U.S. Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident, which gives her with the powers of superhuman strength, energy projection, and flight. It’s not long before she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.
Samuel L. Jackson returns as Nick Fury, only this time, you’ll see him before he wears his famous eye patch. The film will take place in the 1990s, when Fury was still just an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Jude Law portrays Walter Lawson / Mar-Vell, her mentor, while Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou return as Ronan the Accuser and Korath the Pursuer (as seen in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY). Another familiar face in the film is Clark Gregg, as fan favorite Phil Coulson. The film also stars Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, and McKenna Grace.
CAPTAIN MARVEL is directed by the writing/directing team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, whose credits include MISSISSIPPI GRIND and HALF NELSON. An all-star collective of accomplished writers penned the screenplay, including Meg LeFauve (INSIDE OUT, THE GOOD DINOSAUR), Nicole Perlman (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY), Geneva Robertson-Dworet TOM RAIDER), Liz Flahive & Carly Mensch (GLOW), and Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck.
Now Captain Marvel has been around in Marvel Comics since 1968, but this July, with their new creative team, Marvel is launching the latest adventures of Captain Marvel with “Life of Captain Marvel“! Writer Margaret Stohl and artist Carlos Pacheco will tell the story of how Carol Danvers was just a girl from Boston who loved science and the Red Sox until a chance her accident with a Kree hero gave her incredible super powers. But now? Well she’s one of the Avengers leaders and the commander of Alpha Flight!
