We couldn’t be more excited for what movies Hollywood has to offer in 2014! What of films we are quite anticipating here in the MommaRambles household is CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER! We are HUGE fans of the Marvel franchise. My little guy just loves Iron Man, Thor, Captain America…, while this momma loves Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr… errr, I mean I love great action films (that just happen to star some fine looking men). So yes, we are very much excited for the latest installment of the series.
In honor of the film’s upcoming release, I recently made a Captain America Berry Shield Tart! Now I admit, I probably haven’t made this tart in about a year, but I have to say, it’s definitely an easy recipe that anyone can do! Hopefully you give it a try.
Ingredients
1 box of refrigerated pie crusts, softened as directed on box
1/4 cup slivered almonds
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
2 vanilla pudding cups (3.5-4 oz each)
2 yogurt cups, either vanilla or lemon flavored
strawberries sliced
blueberries
Directions
Preheat your oven to 450°F. Unroll the pie crust into a 9-inch pie plate. I prefer to use glass. Do not prick the crust! Then in a food processor or blender, add in the almonds and granulated sugar. Process and chop the mixture until it is finely ground. Once done, sprinkle almond mixture over pie crust. You’ll probably want to gently press it in. Bake 9 to 13 minutes depending on which kind of pie plate you use. The box will have a suggested time. If crust puffs in center, take a wooden spoon and gently flatten the crust back down. Let it cool for like 20 minutes.
While the crust is baking/cooling, mix together the pudding and yogurt in a mixing bowl. Feel free to use an electronic mixer! Now I’ve made this recipe with both vanilla yogurt and lemon yogurt. I prefer to use lemon because that’s just my flavor preference. On this particular day, I actually used lemon Greek yogurt! I still think the recipe turned out pretty well. However, feel free to use whatever yogurt type and brand is your favorite.
Once you’ve created the mixture, poor it into the cooled pie crust and spread around. For the fruit topping, take your strawberries and cut them into quarters long ways. Take each slice and place them along the side of the pie crust, as seen below. Then take the blueberries and make an outline of a star in the center. With the extra blueberries, fill in the space so it looks like a “white star” on a blue background. Visuals below! Now place the pie in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or until it is time to serve! See? I told you it was super easy to make.
My little couldn’t wait to try a slice of berry tart! He just loved that it looked like Captain America’s shield. Of course Cappy joined him at the table to enjoy a slice. However my little man wasn’t really willing to share a piece with one of his favorite super heroes. (Not going to lie… he happily tried to feed a blueberry to Iron Patriot.)
…and of course since this is a Captain America themed treat, it wouldn’t be a Captain America post without the new trailer included!
Captain America: The Winter Soldier Trailer
During last Sunday’s Super Bowl, viewers were directed on how to watch the latest CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLIDER trailer. If you missed it, here is your chance to watch it! Trust me, this is the trailer you don’t want to miss as you’ll finally get a glimpse at not only the Winter Solider, but the newest Avenger to join the bunch… Falcon!

Looks great and I love the step by step photos. I hate when I see a recipe but not pictures throughout it. No before and after because there is always something I missed or wasn’t sure if it should look like during. I think this is a great dessert to have just before seeing the movie. My 6 yr old loves Marvel. I love that he is wearing the shirt too.
