August 27 was the first day of school here in Maryland. Some students returned to the classroom with excitement, while others returned grudgingly, saying good bye to summer freedom. This was expected. What wasn’t expected was the shooting at Perry Hill High School on that first day back. A 15 year old student of the school, who is now in custody, walked into the school’s cafeteria and fired a gun. Daniel Borowy, a special-needs student who attends PHHS, was struck in the back while sitting at a lunch table. As of date, Daniel still remains in critical condition.
I want to take a moment to say thank you to PHHS guidance counselor Jesse Wasmer. Mr. Wasmer bravely subdued the shooter ensuring that no other students would be harmed. He is a hero who risked his life to stop this senseless act before even more damage was done.
Daniel is a well-liked student around PHHS. He is known to be friendly towards everyone, offering high fives and waves. He is known to reach out to new students and always showed up to class in a cheerful mood. Daniel is also a HUGE Lady Gaga fan!
A campaign has been started by the students at PHHS in hopes to bring the singing superstar to Maryland to visit Daniel in the hospital. Daniel is a student who always brought cheer to others. So why not bring some cheer to him? Students are asking those with Twitter accounts to tweet the hashtag “#GagaVisitDaniel” in efforts that Lady Gaga will see the message and hopefully come visit him. She is known for her massive Twitter presence and following.
There is now a Facebook page dedicated to this effort. The students are making lead way with this campaign! Even some of our Baltimore Ravens, such as Torrey Smith and Bernard Pollard, are tweeting the message to bring more attention to #GagaVisitDaniel!

Thanks for posting this. Daniel is my sister’s student. She was just several feet away from this incident when it happened. I was horrified when my Mother alerted me that my sister was in the cafeteria in a “lock down” w/shooter w/gun right there. Thank God for cell phone’s. She was able to call my Mom to say she was ok in case we heard it on the news.
I have tweeted and forwarded Daniel’s page to numerous influential people/programs. Problem is according to Lady Gaga’s Website she is on a busy tour overseas til the end of the year. Hoping she can send Daniel a message/video or something of the like.
My own son attended this school until June of this year. Mr Jesse Wasmer is such a great Counselor before this even happened. He’s a “Hero” in my book. The shooter had 20 more rounds on him, so it definitely could have been worse.
