Here in Maryland we can definitely tell that Autumn is arriving. The air is becoming more crisp. Pumpkin patches are opening up. Fall Festivals are popping up on the schedules. Plus, I’m already seeing the Halloween decor going up at the local mall and shopping centers. Yes, Halloween is a month and a half away. Time to think about COSTUMES! If your city is like mine, Trick r Treating is a long time tradition that the local kids love. We have Halloween parades and parties at every local community and center you can think of.

So we’ve started browsing the shops for costumes, but just can’t seem to find anything. Either the selection isn’t that great, or people have already opened the costumes and you can see where the damage is already done. Plus there are times when the stores are so mobbed we can’t even reach the toddler costume section. As a busy working mom, I don’t exactly want to spend my free time running from store to store around town looking for something. BuyCostumes.com generously sent me the Star Wars Darth Vader Fleece Toddler Costume! Last year I choose an adorable lil monster costume. Well this year, since the little man gets to go Trick r Treating with his dad, I picked a costume his dad would like too. Since his dad (like every other guy in the universe) enjoyed the Star Wars’ films as a child. So in his honor, we went with Darth Vader. I like that this costume is an officially licensed Star Wars costume, and not some knock off!

The costume arrived neatly folded and packaged, with no damage done! The costume contains a  body suit, a character headpiece, and a detachable cape. I was really impressed with the quality of the soft fleece fabric the body suit was made of. It was quite thick for warmth, but wasn’t overly hot where he would end up sweating when indoors. I think the costume is perfect for a crisp night out heading from house to house. It will keep my baby all snug and warm.

I really love the feature that the cape is detachable. My son always wants the cape on. However, I know that every year one of my local mom groups hosts a Halloween party at our local playground. I like that he can still run around in his costume with the other kids, but that I can remove the cape so that it doesn’t snag on anything.

Like I stated above, this costume is one that is officially licensed by the Star Wars franchise. Therefore, you know they are going to make the Darth Vader button design more accurate than other costumes out there! My son loved pushing all the “buttons.” I think he enjoyed the colorful contrast.

As for the hat that serves as Vader’s helmet, it was somewhat hard to keep on a squirmy wiggly toddler who wants to know what is on his head. The hat is made of a thick felt that is formed the shape. It serves its purpose of remaining comfortable for a child to wear. It can just be hard to keep on if your child does not want to wear it.

I think with the detail of the costume, most people can tell who he is suppose to be without the “helmet.” What I’ve been doing is wearing the hat myself in efforts to show him that it is okay for this hat to sit on his head.

Another great aspect of this costume is that the underside of the legs has velcro closures. These work pretty well and keep the costume closed. You can still easily open them for potty access and diaper changes. This is a MUST for any infant or toddler costume, and I was very happy to see this costume included that.
